Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

I bought this printer because I was having problems with the 430DN transport and feed with cardstock. This printer will not let me print cardstock even though the settings are bypass tray with cardstock it still consistently tells me to change - when I print from pagemaker, it processes, then alerts to change bypass settings, I press start, change to bypass, cardstock, and it will print, have to do this every time. The defaults and the config page show bypass tray priority for cardstock. Help, I can't win. thanx

That's not the problem, works in Word - It's something in Pagemaker, it needs a new PPD or something. Also works with the PCL Driver just not the Postscirpt Driver which I need as I'm printing files that need quality for customers.

These printers are a much better category than the link provided - they are meant to print heavier cardstoc than I'm using.

Its a simple setting you need to add to the default print setup. Now I'm not sure what version of windows your using so I'll describe the procedure for XP and win 7 / vista..

Windows XP.

  1. click start
  2. click printers and faxes
  3. right click your printer and click properties
  4. set it up as you always do to print the card stock, remember to select the proper feed tray and bypass-settings (as you always have to do from page maker or what ever program)
  5. save the new settings as your default settings.
in win7/vista
  1. click start
  2. devices and printers
  3. right click your printer and click properties
  4. set it up as you always do to print the card stock, remember to select the proper feed tray and bypass-settings (as you always have to do from page maker or what ever program)
  5. save the new settings as your default settings.
or click start. control panel, printer /faxes
follow steps 1 - 3

Hi, well you really do have a little, ahem, problem now don't you. Well from what I understand, any settings for anything else but the default tray, are non-persistent, meaning you only get to set, and do it once, each time, then "It" "Forgets". Unless it specifically states that it will do multiple copies in cardstock from the tray concerned, usually it is a single one shot deal, as "They" expect that usually cardstock, is loaded one sheet at a time, the same thing with envelopes. Of course this doesn't apply to normal paper.
This is simply the way in which the operating system is written, I guess they never figured anyone may wish to print on cardstock more than one at a time, multiple copies? So unfortunately you are stuck, with the way it is.
I have thought on this and can not come to any other conclusion, than to try an get a printer that can and does print cardstock from the default tray, or one that allows multiple copies to be printed on cardstock. I guess multiple cardstock is not all that a common thing, but I am sure that there must be suitable printers out there that will do the job.
You might consider this below, just to get the idea of what i mean.

Why is my printer printing half of page on cardstock

If you are feeding it through like you would with normal weight paper than you are always going to get this. Most printers have a secondary feed point for heavy stock paper. Usually in the back.

Cardstock won't feed

You need to hand feed these things.....one at a time. I sometimes find that I have to "help" it a little bit to get it feed by putting just a bit of pressure on the paper to push it into the feeder. Another trick is to make sure the front edge is turned up just a bit. (I usually take about 10-15 pieces of cardstock and roll them, and then feed them one at a time) that seems to work pretty well, too

If there printer is not able to print on card stock then check the recommend
card stock paper thickness, if the printer works with normal paper but not card stock then there is problem in the card stock and by using this paper may also damage the rollers on the printer and make the printer useless ...

Good luck...

Paper too thick?

You will need to use the manual feed and insert the cardstock one page at a time. First look at the rear of the printer for a purple dial. Roll the dial downward. This will allow the printer to exit straight out the back of the machine. Allow enough room at the rear of the printer so the cardstock doesn't hit anything on the way out. Next look at the front of the machine at the **** just above the paper tray. You'll see an envelope icon. Align the cardstock when manual feeding one sheet at a time to the left side of the **** next to the envelope icon. When you hit "file, print" select MANUAL FEED in the print window.

The 4L will only do cardstock by one at a time in the way noted above as the feed system isn't strong enough to make the sharp bend coming out of the tray or in the back to bend it around and into the top tray.

Paper keeps jamming

To print card stock you must us the manual slot in the front of the printer and feed one at a time. Also open the back flap door so the card stock can exit out the back instead of trying to bend around for the try. That will give you the staight paper path that your thick stock needs.

HP 2575 Jamming on cardstock paper

most likely that printer would do it if it were brand new, but after a period of time, the mechanism becomes 'tuned' to a certain size paper..

you may need to realign the rollers, etc, to accept the thicker paper.

my recommend..go to a local print shop with paper and images/data on cd, and let them do it.
