If you take the pulley off, then the bolts that hold it to the deck it will drop through the deck, then may with a vice and a pipe wrench the you may be able to get off or replace the spindle. Hope this helps Tim

The idler pulley assembly on cutting deck of a Craftsman 830 is not lining up straight with the the blade shaft pulley causing belts to be eaten. Do I need to tighten something? Replace something?

That pully has several washer with it. If they aren't there or out of place then the idler tensioner will run at an angle. Get the parts breakdown for it and check it to make sure all your parts are still there.

What is proper procedure for replacing all 3 pulley/ blade drive assemblies. Had trouble getting blade mount plate off of bottom off spindle shaft.

OK I HOPE THIS WORKS I HAVE A T-13560 GUESSING THEY'RE CLOSE, I HAD TO PULL OFF THE TOP COVERS SHAPED LIKE A "V" WITH ONE NUT HOLDING IT ON ,FIRST REMOVE THE CENTER BLADE BOLT UNDERNEATH ...THEN YOU'LL SEE THEIRS 4 1/4-20 HOLDING THE BLADE DRIVE ON BUT FOR ME I ACTUALLY TOOK THE FOUR BOLTS OUT HOLDING THE ENGINE MOUNT OUT IE. THE CENTER OF THE DECK TO EXPOSE THE TOP OF THE CENTER PULLEY (MY BAD ONE) AT WHICH POINT I COULD TAKE AN IMPACT WRENCH TO REMOVE THE PULLEY NUT ...THEN UNDERNEATH REMOVE THE BLADE MOUNT ....MY BOTTOM BEARING FELL APART SO I COULD PUT THE SHAFT IN A VISE , HEAT IT UP AND TURN IT COUNTER CLOCKWISE ...THEN REASSEMBLE GOOD LUCK

What holds pully on shaft for lawn keeper blade

I have an old model Lawn Keeper gas edger with a 2HP Briggs and Stratton engine. It uses a 30" fan belt to drive the cutting blade and both pulleys have an alllen head set screw holding the pulleys to the shafts. The pulleys are cast aluminum and the set screw and shafts are steel so I find need penetrating oil and heat to loosen the set screw in order to push the drive pulley further on the shaft to make room to replace the drive belt.

Why isn't the center blade on a john deere LX178

Of course with everything off, reach under the deck and turn the center blade by hand. If:
1. the blade turns by itself and nothing else moves, you need to tighten the retaining bolt more.
2. the blade, retaining bolt and drive shaft turn, check to see if the pulley above it is turning.
a. If the pulley turns freely check that the drive belt is going around it to power the blade.
b. If the blade turns with the drive shaft and the pulley doesn't, check that the pulley is still properly connected to the blade shaft. Some have a key in them that can split, others just have a bolt on top holding them tightly on the shaft.

Ak38001 admiral washer need to replace drive belt

To change the drive belt you must unplug the washer and lay it forward on its front. Put some cardboard down so not to scratch the paint. Remove the two screws holding the rear panel and remove panel. Undo two bolts holding the pump on. There are three bolts holding the transmission into the washer. Locate the one bolt which has a spacer between the transmission and the post under the transmission. Remove the silver spring at the corner of the transmission. Remove the belt from the large silver pulley.
You will notice the part with the two coils called the wig wag. Under the left coil is a flat shaft. Rotate the large pulley to advance the flat shaft till its as far forward as possible. Insert a large screwdriver into the slot of the flat shaft until it comes out of the vertical shaft that it is inserted into by rotating the pulley with the screwdriver inserted into the slot in the shaft. Drop the vertical shaft till it almost comes out of the slot of the transmission it is inserted into. Tap the gray yoke off the top of the vertical shaft to allow enough room to slide the belt out. Slide the belt from where you removed the transmission bolt and spacer. You should now be able to remove the belt.
Slide the new belt through the space where the bolt and spacer was removed.
Slide the belt through where the vertical shaft was lowered.
Position the belt around all pulleys except the pump pulley.
Reinstall the transmission spacer and bolt.
Reinstall the flat shaft through the vertical round shaft by lining the flat shaft with the slot in the vertical shaft and rotating the large silver pulley until the flat shaft goes all the way through the vertical shaft.
Tap the yoke back into the top of the vertical shaft with the white plastic clip.
Reinstall the spring.
Line the pump pulley behind the belt and make sure the pump activator is positioned into the groove of the flat shaft controlled by the wig wag.
insert the two pump bolts.
You should be ready to go.

Trying to change belt for push mower , cant figure out how to get it off shaft , plastic guard off shaft , this belt is for the self propelled front wheels

If you have a large enough work bench it will make this a lot easier to do but it can be accomplished on the ground.
Lay your mower back on its handle bar and brace it with something heavy enough to hold it in place. This will keep your oil from running out into the air filter and/or into the cylinder as opposed to turning it over on its side.
Spray a bit of good penetrating oil around the shaft ABOVE the blade adapter and let it soak for a bit.
Remove the bolt holding the blade to the blade adapter then using a small hammer, gently tap downward on the blade adapter as you pull on it at the same time. Avoid striking it with enough force to break it. They usually slip off with just a little bit of effort.
Now you should be able to remove the plastic belt guard from the shaft and access the belt.
If you can't work it off the shaft pulley, remove it from the transmission pulley first. You will also need to remove the cover from the top side of the mower in order to replace the belt.
You didn't give a model number so I don't know if there are any screws securing the bottom guard but most of them just sit there on top of the blade adapter and slide into a cut-out area of the deck

You can use the belt to hold the pulley from turning
( you ARE going to replace the belt aren't you?)

Simply use locking pliers (vise grip) to clamp the belt sides together close to the pulley. Then wra the other other end of the loop around something convenient to keep the pulley from turning. Guaranteed to hold the ******.

The problem you discribe is the classic broken blade spindle or quill. The tube that supports the bearings between the deck pulleys and the blades is almost certainly broken. Look under the deck [mower OFF] at the piece right above the blade that is malfunctioning and you will probably find a bad bearing or a chunk of the tube that holds the bearing/blade to be missing. That happens when the blade gets 'wacked'. The outer edge is cutting too high because the belt is pulling the shaft toward the center of the deck. The quills are fairly easy to replace. Get the model number off your tractor before you go to buy the part.
