Question about Everex StepNote VA2000T Notebook PC

Open Question

I have an older Everex StepNote VA250W with 2-512 MB DIMMS (or whatever they are) and a 1.46GHz processor with 533 bus speed, and the processor went out. I would like to upgrade to a faster Processor and more memory if feasible and possible. Can you give me the part numbers of the options I can consider. I already have the Processor and Memory out and I just need to get the new parts before I forget how to put it back together. LOL Kind Regards, Carl Hatton 361-758-4051 cehatton@gmail.com

you can at most upgrade memory, rarely video, but I never seen ugrading a CPU on a laptop, most of the time the CPU is soldered and the MB does not support upgrade.

I have a 838gm gateway,Ive tried to install 4gb of ram ,when I install more than 2gb,it will not boot

Gateway's website says this motherboard will support 4GB of DDR333 or DDR400 memory. I would suggest testing each memory modules by plugging it into the board by itself, then rebooting. This way you can catch a bad DIMM that might be causing problems. If each one checks out then start adding one module at a time, rebooting after each one. If it still stops booting after you add a module, you probably have a bad system board, and only now that you are adding the extra memory are you finding that out. If that is the case, try contacting Gateway support. Maybe they would be kind enough to cover repair under warranty.

RAM cuantity

The motherboard you mentioned supports DDR1 RAM.

For windows xp and general application 512 MB is enough.
But if you use memory intensive applications like image/video editing then you can opt for 1-2 GB RAM.
