all two cycle chainsaw and weedeater type engines run best at 40:1 ratio, best lubrication and power as well.

Do you clean the entire saw inside and out sometimes when you keep it in a close room for months or days even they could overheat. Don't start right away but wait till its fuel is really mixed in properly. Get it checked by a service center.

How to change the fuel filter on an Echo 315

Im going to assume that this echo saw is the same as most saws. Open your fuel tank and remove the cap completely. Empty the fuel from the tank, and try to swirl around the fuel to get the last bit out and any dirt that might be in the tank. Compressed air can be used to blow the tank out or flush the tank with some more fresh fuel. This is important to help your new fuel filter last longer and also the reason why the filter would need replacing. Using a length of wire, coat hanger or smaller, make a small hook on the end, small enough to get into the fuel tank, big enough to fit around the fuel line. Place the hook in the fuel tank and fish out the fuel line and the gently remove the filter from the tank, its on the end of the fuel line. Pull the old filter off and push the new filter on, Place back in the tank, Fit the fuel cap chain and fuel cap. Job done. Hope this helps

Fuel mix

Quick check with mfg (DAGS mcculloch) yields: 40:1 with their 2-stroke oil and 87 octane.
I've run one (with 14" bar) for years on same 50:1 mix I use in other saws with no problems- synthetic oil and regular gas. One of these saws is now 30 yrs.old. And ... no smoke-cloud, nor port/muffler mung.
With new saw, you might want to use more oil for first few hours. Just remember that doing so leans the fuel mixture.

Im trying to find out the mixture ratio of oil to gas for my craftsman 55cc 18 in bar chainsaw

Fuel oil mixture is deturmined by the brand of mixed fuel you use, not the machine. The machine will state what it's recommended oil brand states. Example a stihl chain saw will be 50:1 with stihl oil but if using echo oil it would be 35:1.
