Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. This sounds as if the engine leaned out big time. You may have a hole in the piston. Perform a compression test looking for 110 PSIG minimum. There is a bit of a compresion release due to the design of the cyliner head so you will not see full compression on a compression test. Your compression should be 110 PSI or above. There is the possibility you also have a fuel supply problem that caused the engine to run lean. This could be from debris in the carb or a hole in the carb diaphragm(s). I know this is a 35cc engine and has a 14" bar unless you changed it to a 16" bar.

Parts:
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/homelite-ut10540-35cc-chain-saw-parts-c-18807_21362_127279.html

The piston is in detail D but appears to NOT be available. (no release date)

This engine takes carb repair kit H142-42 (Ruiing) The kit is under $6.00.
My real concern here is that you added fuel to the cylinder and did not get a momentary start (new plug too). That is why I think you may have a hole in the piston from running lean. (Compression test is a must) If you do not have a compression tester... fit a paint brush handle (form it) so that it does not penetrate any deeper than the electrode of the spark plug into the cylinder but make it a tight fit. When you pull the recoil do it with conviction. It should pop the paint brush about 10 feet if you had it TIGHT in the spark plug hole. Also use a flash light and do what you can to inspect for about a 1/4" hole in the piston. (Won't be easy to see the whole pistion head)

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Hello DRB, you will need to contact Homelite directly, and their customer service should be able to provide a manual. Here is the link.

Not running at full throttle

close to the carb you will find two tiny screws. They are labeled H and L. L sets the idle speed. H sets the max RPM. Hold the throttle wide open and turn the H screw. When you find the very top end, back it down some or it will be running too lean. That would make it run hot, and provides less lubrication. Could result in engine failure if you run it too lean.
