Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

My Brother MFC-9440CN is printing orange instead of red. I have replaced the magenta cartridge and the drum assembly (I suspect it would have been due for a change anyway) with no success. The old magenta cartridge was leaking toner causing a streak down the side of the paper - the new one fixes that but both cartridges print orange instead red. I am guessing the the toner leak from the old cartridge may be affecting the laser mirrors but have not been able to find any information on a DIY way to clean the mirrors. Do I need to take it in for service?

I tried the expert's suggestion to turn off color management and it did not work. His suggestion about a bad print head needs more explaining as I didn't know a laser printer had printheads?

Yes the magenta cartridge might be defective. Try to replace new again.

Also, you are correct that maybe the leak powder is the problem. Sometimes it happens. You have to clean the toner compartment, fuser rollers and other inside the toner compartment.

Try also to shake well the toner cartridge that might be sticky to distribute evenly the toner.

If not, you have to replace the magenta cartridge and it is faulty.

Post comment for more help. Run also the calibration and maybe there are other toner that is low. Normally when toner cartridge it empty, the color of the print out changes.

Post comment if you need more help. Regards

The most common remedy is to clean the drum unit, but you have replaced that. Try cleaning the corona wires, p144 here

When you replace the Drum cartridge with a new one, you need to reset the drum cartridge counter by using the following steps:

  4. Press OK.
  5. Press 1 to reset the drum unit counter.

This will reset the counter and will see the toner cartridge as new..(if in the menu it is available toner reset instead of drum ..choose that one )

I have a Brother MFC-9440CN. It has been sitting for a while and when I print the right side of the paper has a lot of specks. How do I clean the inside of the maching.

In the users manual, it has directions on how to run a cleaning sheet. Do this 5 times. If it does not correct the error, open the machine, remove the cartridges and inspect the carts and the drum unit for excessive toner. If one of the carts is leaking, replace it and run the clean procedure. If the carts are clean, the drum unit needs to be CAREFULLY blown off with deionized compressed air set to 35 psi.

How do I set Brother 9440 MFC to print using black cartridge only?

Hello,

You can set the MFC-9440CN to print with the black toner cartridge only through the printer drivers.

If you are using Mac, this needs to be changed before you print or set a preset.

If you are using windows, follow the below steps.

1. Go to Start menu \ Control Panel \ Printers (devices and printers for windows 7)
2. Right click on the MFC-9440CN and select "printing preferences"
3. Under the "basic" tab, you will see "color mode"; simply select "mono"

Thank you,

Magenta Dots vertically on Left margin of page

That is referred to as a repeating defect...most likely caused by a defect on the magenta drum unit. Here is a link for information on how to repair this problem:
