The explorer.exe process is a very basic process for most of the user interface of windows. you can read more about it here: http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/explorer.exe.html

sometimes there are small errors in appications, especially ones that are amature like any games or programs you may have downloaded, ending the process will not harm your computer, but it will cancel any file transfers and close all open folders you had open.

after ending explorer you will probably notice that you have no desktop, do not panic. simply enter the task manager (ctrl-alt-del) or (ctrl-****-esc) and start a new task, or you can start a new task by press (winkey-R) and then type in the task explorer.exe

if this is too complicated to do, the simply make sure to close and save everything you were doing, then restart the computer.

First thing you need to scan your hard drive for a possible virus infection.
If the anti-virus cannot find and fix the problem, the explorer.exe file is damaged/corrupted and you need to have it replaced by reinstalling Windows.

Win xp laptop won't run programs fro Start menu

Either your system is really corrupted, or you've got a virus. The only think that comes to mind is to go to task manager, find explorer.exe and click End Process, then click File > New Task (Run...) and type explorer.exe. This will reload explorer and possibly fix the issue.

Gloriwhen i turn my laptop on all it shows is a small computer and a padlock i cant go anywhere on it i have no start button or nothing

It seems as if the explorer.exe file has gone corrupt or is not loading on starting the computer.

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL
Click on task manager
Under the process tab.. try searching for explorer.exe
If its there, then right click on it and click end program

If its not there, then click on FILE tab on upper left hand side corner
Click on "New Task"
Type explorer.exe

That should bring your desktop back again.

If it does then run a virus scan and other security scans to make sure that it was not because of some infection.

Does the start button work?  If not, run ctrl-alt-delete and go to processes.  Check for explorer.exe.  If it is not there, click on New Process and type EXACTLY explorer.exe and hit enter.

I ended the wront task on comodo processess and now evrything has gone of my desktop i can still access programs by doin cont alt del, and running new task, how can i undo this change, plzzzz help, thanx

It sounds like you might have ended a program titled explorer.exe. If this is true then when going to ctrl-alt-del in task manager under file > New task, type in explorer.exe. This should solve the problem. I hope this helps, if you have any further problems let me know.

Problem getting netzero download to download computer says need to close i need to close explorer browser sites but none are open

Please note that I am using Windows XP so Vista may be slightly different but mostly similar.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and open the "Task Manager". Click "Processes" tab and check the box next to "Show processes from all users". Look for the file name of the web browser you are using and here are two common web browsers.

Microsoft Internet Explorer - iexplorer.exe (If you close explorer.exe by mistake, Windows XP users can go to "Applications", "New Task", and type in "C:/WINDOWS/explorer.exe" or Vista users can simply log out and log in through the task manager.)
Mozilla Firefox - firefox.exe

If you use a different web browser, right click the shortcut for your web browser and click "Properties". The file name will be after the last slash ( \ ) in the target box. File names usually end with ".exe".

Click the file name when you find it and click "End Process" but before you do, you are most likely viewing this with a web browser so this window (and all other windows for your web browser) will close as soon you end the proccess. This means make sure you finish what you are doing and be ready for it to close.
