Question about Casio FX83ES Scientific Calculator

# I have a Casio FX83ES Scientific Calculator and I am trying to work out 1 out of 1700 as a percentage using it. When I type in 1/1700 I get 1 over 1700. I press S<>D and then I get 5.882...x10^4. How do I get the percentage from this figure...? My calculator is acting strange...

1÷1700 expressed as a decimal is 0.000588235, which is 5.882...×10^-4. [NB not 10^4]

To convert this to a percent, remember that "per cent" means "per 100" which also means "divide by 100". To keep the answer correct, if you are dividing by 100 you must also multiply by 100.

The get the answer in percent, you must therefore multiply the previous answer by 100 to get 0.00588235 percent. (or 5.882...×10^-2 percent).

Make sure you use the (-) key instead of the - key to enter the negative exponent. - subtracts one value from another, (-) signifies a negative value.
