Question about Audio Players & Recorders
I heard the same problem and just remedied it. Go into recovery mode and delete the firmware you have now. Then go to Creative's website and get the recovery program. Run the program and download whatever firmware is latest for your player(it detects it and starts it automatically). Let the process run and reboot itself. It will look like all your music and pics and videos are gone but they'll still be there give them all a second to reload.

Have you tried updating the firmware of your Zen Plus? I've had mine for almost an year and haven't had these issues -- I updated the firmware as soon as I unpacked it.
Before returning the player, try downloading the MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZM+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.
By the way, before updating the firmware, let the battery have a full charge, ok?
I hope it won't keep freezing on you after the update.
