Question about Whirlpool ED5GTNXMQ Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a model ED5KVEXVB00 that I purchased August 2009. Have replaced water filter twice. The most recent replacement was late January this year which makes it about 2 months old. It has been leaking for about 1 month. The water is driping from the filter enclosure. Could this be a faulty cartridge or some other problem?

I operated refrigerator 3 days without a filter and there was no leak so I replaced the "O" rings on the filter cartridge, lublicated and reinstalled today (4/3/11). Will let you know if it still leaks.

There is probably sediment on the housing o-ring or the o-ring is damaged or not seated properly. You can usually use non-toxic grease to lubricate the o-ring and the threads on the housing. But if the fitting is intact and o-rings are not damaged, then yes it can be faulty cartridge.
----------also carefully press the filter fitting hard and see, if there is still the water dripping. Also re-check the filter fitting. If its dripping water from the water line and not the filter side.If the line is dripping, then there can be hairline crack in water passing line. Also check water valve.-----------If all checked ok, then it can be cartridge issue.------------

The green light flashing is a fault code, usually for a no, or long fill situation, GE has nixed this electronic ice maker and returned to one that looks similar but is non electronic, while your ice maker is probably at fault you may actually have a separate issue causing the ice maker to display a fault code, such as a spent water filter, or low water pressure, or even a bad water valve on the fridge it's self. I have a chevy traverse 2009. The power tailgate wont stay up on the strut. it was working fine the day before. the gate opens to the fully open position before slipping resulting in the gate closing

It's now a recall item. See below.

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 15V415000
Component: STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE
Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
Potential Number of Units Affected: 686287

Year: 2009

from: 2008-07-06
to: 2012-02-29
Recall Date: 2015-06-30

Summary:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 Buick Enclave vehicles manufactured January 3, 2007, to February 29, 2012, 2009-2012 Chevrolet Traverse vehicles manufactured July 6, 2008, to February 29, 2012, 2007-2012 GMC Acadia vehicles manufactured September 15, 2006, to February 29, 2012, and 2007-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles manufactured August 17, 2006, to March 18, 2010. The affected vehicles, equipped with the power liftgate option, have gas struts that hold the power liftgate up when open. These struts may prematurely wear and the open liftgate may suddenly fall.

If the open liftgate unexpectedly falls, it may strike a person, increasing their risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power liftgate actuator motor control unit so that the motor will prevent the rapid closing of the lift gate, free of charge. Owners were mailed interim notices on August 3, 2015. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, and Saturn customer service at 1-800-553-6000. Replaced my GE double wide refrigerator SMARTWATER FILTER #GWF With a which is supposed to be better. Yet, the water stream has cut down to half. Do I need the adapter collar for this newer model? ...

I have exactly the same problem. Replaced my GWF filter with the "new improved" MWF filter and the same thing happened. Tried replacing the filter not once, but twice - same low water flow. If you install the bypass plug the water flow is normal, so don't bother checking for water restrictions, bad hoses, tanks etc.. My refridgerator is a GE Profile 26 cubic foot purchased in 2004. I'm afraid these MWF filters don't work well in older models.

My Whirlpool side y side refrigerator purchased last year august is not dispensin water but making ice. I have replaced the filter but still not dispensing water.

there iis a switch on the door dispenser that operates when you slip your glas up for cold water and in doing this you should hear a click from the solinoid when this part of operation takes place
if no noise then probable the solinoid is faulty
if there is a noise then disconnect pipe going up inside of door which in toe kick area try pushinhing on switch to operate if no water comes out remove filter and try again, water should come out where the filter is situated
if no go replace water valve

Ice maker not working

I recently had trouble with both my water dispenser and my ice maker. I determined that my filter was clogged, so I replaced it. That fixed the water dispenser but the ice maker still wasn't working. I investigated further and found that the water inlet tube was frozen solid. Aparently, when the filter was clogged the water came in so slowly that it froze before it got to the icetray. I tried pouring hot water over the inlet tube to melt it and it mostly worked, but there was still some ice in the tube further back where I couldn't reach. Finally I defrosted the freezer so all the ice could melt and turned it back on and now it works great! Hope this might help.
