Question about Admiral 26 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My frost free, Admiral, side by side freezer just stopped working, i plugged it out for two days and when i plugged it back in neither the freezer or fridge works. Its actually warm inside both sides and i cant hear any fan now, the only thing working is the lights inside. The fan was working before i plugged it out to see if it was blocked with ice.

The fridge has a refrigerant leak, or the thermostat has failed.
Try replacing the thermostat, if that does not work then you will need to call a technician in to find and repair the refrigerant leak and regass the fridge

Frost and icicles in frost free freezer

Then the defrost assembly has stopped working. On the freezer side of the unit, remove food, remove shelves, remove the rear inside panel of the freezer. Defrost with heat gun or hair dryer and replace the defrost assembly. You can find this part on line with your make and model number.

Amana refrigerator ars2365aw refrigerator/freezer works perfectly for a day or two then stops cooling. Compressor and fans are still running. I will unplug it for a days, plug it back in then it will work...

if your freezers back wall has a layer of frost build up on it,that means the defrost heater or thermostat that controls this heater is bad,if theres an ice buildup on the evaporator coils it cant blow cold air into the unityou need to find out whats bad as it can no longer defrost, when you shut it off for a day you are defrosting the unit, then the frost and ice again cover the coil when you plug it back in

My Admiral HMG241777 is not cold, freezer is okay.

Most reasons for fresh food section not cold but freezer ok is a defrost problem or evaporator fan not functioning. Look at the back of the freezer, if it is covered by frost it is not defrosting and will not circulate air properly.

Our fridge freezer (Admiral GS20C63EV) stops cooling and needs to be turned off with doors open to difrost overnight. it works for a few days and again it stops cooling! both the fridge and freezer stops...

Good day,
Step one. Remove the light guard in the fresh food section and where the main thermostat is located is a slot where you can insert a screwdriver. This is where the timer is. With the machine running, turn the shaft clockwise until the machine shuts off. Wait 35 minutes. If the machine comes back on, the timer is o.k. if not replace it.

If the timer is o.k move over to the freezer side. With the machine having been on for at least 6 hours remove the rear panel.
Inspect the cooling coil closely. It should have a frost coating from bottom to top. If the top coils are clean, you have developed a freon leak and have a serious problem.

If the coil is active top to bottom, then you will need to replace the dual glass defrost heaters and the defrost thermostat. One or the other may still be good at the time but it isn't worth the hassle to go into the system twice.

Installing them is tedious but doable. Take your time and keep track of how it comes apart. It's a monkey see monkey do job.
Careful on pulling the new wires.

P.S.The top coils wil not be as heavily frosted as the bottom ones but must have an active coating of frost on them.

Admiral side by side fridge defrosted and no longer cooling

Replace the compressor start relay.
If this does not solve the problem you most likely have a bad compressor.
Your fridge may be under a 5 year compressor warranty.

Admiral model #rswa278a

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
