Open Question

We are running check printing using HP LaserJet 4 with TROY 617. We are using one SIM card or what ever name is for one signature on the check. Now, we need to send to this printer checks from different departments. So, we need few signatures on the SIM card or we need few SIM cards install on it. I am not clear with this. Can we modify configration on the existing printer or we need to buy new printers with few SIM cards in it? Thank you in advance. Eugene

Hello,

Your printer is a dn model, which means it is duplex + network. Please unplug the network cable and perform the following:

Cold reset A cold reset changes most system parameters in NVRAM to the factory defaults. However, unlike NVRAM initialization, a cold reset does not reset the page count, the paper tray sizes, language, or formatter number.
A cold reset also resets all the HP Jetdirect settings as well as the printer settings. Use the following procedure to perform a cold reset.

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Go button.
  3. Turn the printer on, and continue to hold the Go button for at least 5 seconds, but not longer than 15 seconds. During this process, the Attention LED turns on.
  4. Release the Go button.
    If both the Attention and the Ready LEDs turn on before you release the Go button, you must start the procedure again with step 1.
The printer's LEDs begin cycling. The cold-reset process runs until completion, and the printer returns to the ready state.

Network reset A network reset changes all network system parameters in NVRAM to the factory defaults. During the network-reset process, all button presses are ignored.
Use the following procedure to perform a network reset.
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Simultaneously Press and hold the Go and Job Cancel buttons.
  3. Turn on the printer and continue to hold the Go and Job Cancel buttons for approximately 10 seconds, but no longer than 20 seconds. During this process, the Attention light turns on.
  4. Release the Go and Job Cancel buttons. The Attention , Ready , and Go lights begin cycling from front to back. After the network-reset process is complete, the device returns to the ready state.
    If the Attention and Ready lights illuminate before you release the Job Cancel button, start again at step 1.

Now connect the netowrk cable and wait for 5-mins. After that print a configuration page and confirm the IP address.

Known failure with the jetdirect 615s, the more reliable cards are the 610 or the 620. According to HP tech support stay away from the 615.

take the ribbon out, and rewind it a little bit and see if you see print on it. if you dont, chances are your printhead is either bad or has loose cables going into it.

if you do see print, either your card is not aligning properly or the head lift motor might not be working (when the unit on, open the door, and press both buttons at the same time and see if the printhead does an up and down motion), platen roller is bad

adjust your thickness guage as card stock is 3 or 4 times thicker than a 20lb plain paper stock. Here is link to a helpful media guide for HP printers.

Color printed pages are too light.


  • Troubleshooting Setup and Install If your device is not recognized:
    • Verify that your cable is USB 2.0 high-speed compliant.
    • Ensure that your cable is connected correctly. Remove the USB cable, look at the end of the cable, and then match it to the pattern on the USB port. Make sure that it is not upside down. Insert one end of the USB cable completely into the USB port on the HP device and the other end into the back of the computer.
    • Check that the peripheral is turned on. Peripherals will not be recognized if the power is off.
    • Ensure that your USB cable is no more than 15 feet or 5 meters in length.
    • Check that the USB port is enabled. Some computers ship with disabled USB ports.
III. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS When operating in a Windows environment, the CD-ROM setup or installation software detects the version of the operating system that you are running. The software is installed in the language that you have selected. For example, if you are running an English version of Windows and have the language preference set to Spanish, the installation utility will install the Spanish version of the printing software for the appropriate Windows version. INSTALLATION OPTIONS Two methods are available for installing printer drivers and software components for the printer.
  • Full (Recommended) . Installs everything that your device needs to work plus HP Solution Center:
    • HP Color LaserJet 2605 PCL 6 driver or HP Color LaserJet 2605dn_dtn PCL6 driver
    • HP Toolbox FX . Allows you to change some printer settings and contains documentation and self-help tools.
    • Screen Fonts . Printer-matching TrueType fonts help ensure WYSIWYG printing.
    • HP Color LaserJet 2605 series printer documentation. A list of documentation, which includes information about product operation, troubleshooting, warranty and specifications, supplies, and support.
    • HP Solution Center . Use HP Solution Center to gain access to product-specific software and on-screen help. By using HP Solution Center, you can access the HP Shopping Web site and update your HP software. If you have the HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn, you can also transfer images from a photo memory card. To start HP Solution Center, click Start, Programs, choose the HP program group, and then click HP Solution Center.
    • HP Photosmart Transfer . Software for transferring images from photo memory cards to your computer (HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn only).
    • HP Product Assistant . This software detects problems that occur with your HP products and can offer solutions to help you resolve those problems.

  1. Close all programs.
  2. Insert the CD-ROM.
  3. If the HP printing system installer program has not started after 30 seconds, complete steps 4 through 7.
  4. From the Start menu on the taskbar, select Run.
  5. Browse to the root directory for the CD-ROM drive.
  6. Select the SETUP.EXE file, click Open, and then click OK.
  7. Click Install.
  8. Follow the onscreen instructions.
USB Installation for Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Me and Windows Server 2003 (Plug and Play Install)
  1. Turn on the printer and computer.
  2. Verify that the printer displays “Ready.�?

  4. When the Add New Hardware Wizard appears, click Next to install the USB Printing Support.
  5. In the following dialog, select option Search for the best driver for your device, and click Next.
  6. Make sure the HP Color LaserJet 2605 series CD-ROM is in the CD_ROM drive, select Specify a location, browse to your CD_ROM drive, and select the Drivers folder, then either Win98_Me( for Windows 98 and Windows Me) or Win2000_XP (for Windows Server 2003).   1. Download HP's Install Network Printer Wizard.
  2. Run Install Network Printer Wizard and follow the on-screen instructions.

  2. Run the installation utility.
  3. After the software installation is complete, attach the USB cable to the printer and the computer and then restart the computer.
  4. After the computer has restarted, open the Print Center or Printer Setup Utility to see if the printer name appears in the Printer List.
  5. If the printer name displays in the Printer List, the setup is complete. If the printer name does not display in the Printer List, go to the next step.
  6. Click the Add button, and then select USB from the drop-down list. 7. Select HP Color LaserJet 2605 and then click Add. The printer name displays in the Printer List. Setup is complete.

Message "card slot not initialized


The HP Color LaserJet 4650 printer also has three flash memory card slots for printer firmware, fonts, and other solutions. The HP Color LaserJet 4610n does not include any available flash memory card slots.
■ The first CompactFlash slot is reserved for printer firmware.
NOTE Use the first flash memory card slot for firmware only. The slot is marked “Firmware Slot.”
■ The two additional CompactFlash memory slots in the HP Color LaserJet 4650 printer enable the user to add fonts and third-party solutions, such as signatures and personalities. The slots are marked "Slot 2" and "Slot 3."
--- These card slots are located inside the Formater unit. Most likely you either are missing the firmware card or it's defective.

Scanner bulb warming up doesn't go away


Scanner Bulb Error message is received as a result of the HP LaserJet 3300mfp series product scanner?s inability to find the home reference point.

Perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Remove and replace the power cord from the unit.
2. Wait approximately 35 seconds for the scanning assembly to "walk out" and then quickly remove the plug again.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2, three to four times until the head moves approximately 1 inch away from its normal resting place.
4. Replace the plug and let the product fully finish the boot cycle
5. Please ensure that the current firmware update (20021018W) is installed. You can download and install the same from the link given below:

Please follow the steps provided below to download the driver:

1. Click on the option "download drivers and software".
2. Enter "LaserJet 3300mfp" in the search box and press enter key.

Press the Menu/Enter button.

Press the < or > button until Reports appears in the control panel display, then press the Menu/Enter button.

Press the < or > button until Configuration Report appears in the control panel display and press Menu/Enter. The product will exit the menu settings and print the report.

Close all applications and TSRs before running the firmware update.

Simultaneously, press and release the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys to open the Close Program window.

Highlight one item and click End Task.

Repeat this procedure until all programs are closed, except for Explorer and Systray.

If using an HP LaserJet 3330 (the fax model), disconnect the phone line from the device to prevent interruption from an incoming fax.

Verify that the computer has 50 MB of free disk space in order to successfully run the Firmware Update Utility.

The utility can run using either a parallel or a USB connection (USB is not supported in Windows 95 or NT):

If using a USB cable, it is important to first install the HP LaserJet 3300 MFP series software before running the utility (the USB ports and connection are established during the software install).

If using a parallel cable, simply attach the cable and the utility will find the connection automatically.

Save the setup of the unit if a large number of speed dials or other special configurations have been entered.


NOTE: A speed dial report could be printed instead, if the printer is not connected to a computer or if the software is not installed.

Select Start, Programs, HP LaserJet 33xx, Tools, then HP LaserJet Device Configuration to open the HP LaserJet 3300 device configuration.

Click Save to File on the lower left of the General tab.

Select a destination and a file name to save the configuration. Write down the information for retrieval later.

Proceed with the upgrade.

Restart (reboot) the HP LaserJet 33xx device.
Download the HP LaserJet 3300 Firmware Update for Windows from the HP Web site. Click here to download the Utility from www.hp.com.

Begin the upgrade.

Double-click the file named lj3300fwutilitywin-en.exe. When the file opens, click the Start button and allow the utility to run uninterrupted. The product display will initially read Printing Document. After about a minute, the product display will read Updating. Several minutes later the display will change to Completed. The display will then change to Scanner Bulb Warming Up as the new firmware initializes.

Finally, the display will show Ready in the top-left corner. Depending upon the operating system on the PC, the software might prompt Please reboot your Computer. Close the screens by clicking OK.

Reboot the PC, if necessary.

Take the original document that was copied at the beginning and copy it again to compare results. If further assistance is needed, contact HP at 1-800-HPINVENT (1-800-474-6836).

Print a new Configuration page to confirm the new firmware date code.
If speed dial settings were backed up, check to see if they remain in the machine. If they are now blank, restore the configuration with the following steps.

Select Start, Programs, HP LaserJet 33xx, Tools, then HP LaserJet Device Configuration to open the HP LaserJet 3300 Device Configuration.

Click Retrieve from File on the lower left of the General tab.

Select a destination and a file name to open (the file that was saved previously; see Step 7 above).

Click Open and wait for the file to download and reconfigure the product.

Click OK to close the HP LaserJet Device Configuration.

HP Laserjet 4M Plus


That sounds like a problem with your printer driver to me. If the wrong driver is used, then print codes that the other device uses will not be interpreted correctly by your Laserjet 4M Plus, which will cause it to beep. Check the driver on your computer to make sure that you are using one designed for any of the following:

HP Laserjet 4
HP Laserjet 4+
HP Laserjet 4M
HP Laserjet 4M Plus

(Either the symbol "+" or the word "Plus" may be used but most commonly the + is the non-Postscript version and the word is used with the Postscript version. Just as an FYI, the only two differences between the M and non-M versions are the ability to speak Appletalk and the addition of the Postscript module, which is in one of the RAM expansion slots.)

Mac laptop hooked up to HP laserjet 4 plus gets error message:


This printer will not work with a Mac - it has no postscript.

The only laserjet 4's that work with Macs all have an "M" in their name - 4M, 4M Plus etc.

You might be able to get a Postscript personality module for the printer to effectively upgrade it to the "M" version.

Emulex NetJet Print Server Problem


The standard port settings used when setting up a Printer Port is Port 9100 (TCP) when normally communicating with the Jet direct / LaserJet 4 plus printer.

However when using the Emulex Card it s default is Port 2501 (UDP). So within XP change the Port setting to 2501 and it then will communicate correctly.
