Does anyone know the part number for a convergence board for My Samsung 65 in rear projection T.V?

  • Juan Campbell Aug 13, 2008

I bought a new board that states "Does not have STK's" what are "STK's" ?

  • Juan Campbell Aug 13, 2008

The perfect focus will not complete it's cycle.

  • Juan Campbell Aug 13, 2008

What is the auto focus module and where can i get one?

  • Juan Campbell Aug 13, 2008

Can I buy a convergence module with STK's on already on it?

  • Juan Campbell Aug 25, 2008

I need to find a place where i can purchace the board and ic's because the replacement part does not have stk's and i don't know where to put them on.

  • Juan Campbell Aug 25, 2008

does anyone know where i can order the board with the ic's already on it?

  • Juan Campbell Aug 25, 2008

Or if they can also put them on I would be more than happy to pay them for their time and effort.

  • Juan Campbell Aug 26, 2008

I don't want to pay 700 dollars for a 65 dollar part I can put in myself. There has to be somone that will put the IC's on the board for a reasonable price and send it to me.

  • Juan Campbell Aug 26, 2008

Votit, I replaced the part pictured on your reply.Still the same picture.

  • Juan Campbell Aug 30, 2008

I replaced 2 boards so far from Partstore.com. Item # BP9500415B & BP950014P. Still same problem. I can not change the conergence and and when I push the perfect focus button it says "check factory data " in the upper left hand corner.

  • Juan Campbell Aug 30, 2008

The "check factory data" in the upper left corner is something new.

Back to the original problem... As stated elsewhere, the problem is with the convergence circuit. This is the circuit that aligns each of the 3 colored tube outputs to create the picture. The "STKs" referred to here are large black ICs attached toa heatsink. If you open up the back, you should be able to see the heatsink and the ICs attached to it. These are called STKs because the part number starts with STK. FOr example a common one is STK392-110. This may or may not be the one in your set. If you are not sure, post the markings on the parts here and I'll confirm that you have the correct part. Along with the STKs, there either a couple of fuses or low valued resistors in close proximity to the STKs that often go bad as well. If you can solder, you should be able to repair this yourself. Try resoldering the pins on the STKs first. Often poor solder connections can cause the symptoms you see. If the resoldering fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs.

Keep us posted.

What you are requesting is In-Home service that can be provided by any servicer in your local area. There will be a cost for this, probably in the $300 range for labor plus parts. WIth the problems as you have described, expect a totatl bill up to $700 depending upon whether the board is repaired or replaced.

    Help this helps,

    Dan

  • ABRsvcs Aug 27, 2008

Thanks for the update. With the entire module being replaced with no effect on the symptoms, leads us to the power supply section of the set. There should be a low voltage supply for hte convergence circuit. This is usually a 24V supply. This is usually either fuse protected or protected with a low valued resistor used as a current limiter. In either case, this is the next area to investigate. The power leads should be marked at the connector. Measure the voltages at that point to see if they are corect. If not, check the power board for resistors or fuses that feed these connectors.

    Keep us posted.

    Dan

  • ABRsvcs Aug 30, 2008

The factory data that is missing should still be present on the old board. Since the new one had no effect, I'd restore the old one and look for missing voltages to that board. If the original board is indeed bad and you need the new one, then a complete convergence procedure must be done. This will require a signal generator and should be done by a service tech as there is a particular sequence for proper convergence.

Convergence problems are usually caused by a diode on the convergence board.
Obviously, this is not a job for the home owner because experiece on electronics repairs is needed. So, call in the technician to make the troubleshooting of the circuit.

This has to do with the amount of light allowed through the transistors. If warranty is still in effect, have it replaced. Make sure you check the settings to make sure that they arent set for widescreen. The HD channels not coming in is the STK IC resistors/transistors. Hope this helps!

STK is an ---ic--- on the convergence board
if it says that it does not have STK means the board comes without any STK IC on it.

    dear,

STK is basically a voltage regulator that is used in the circuitry of the convergance board.

you have to buy it and try with a fine method in the circuitry..

hope the problem will be resolved..

Just a long shot. their may be a setting to change in the options manual. however if it isn't then it would be an internal problem. such as the screen or the projection modual.

If it has auto focus and can not complete its cycle. then the
Auto focus module is bad,
If it completes and the problem is still remain s then convergence is the problem check for bad conv. drivers or cold solder joint on one or more of the 3 drivers pins.

some samsung models does not have stk on the convergence board it depends on the model .check the link http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/ i will recommend replacing the IC's as well as checking also the IC resistors . just the convergence board with the STK ICs.
check the traces from the connectors to the STK IC before replacement
You may find replacement parts elsewhere for slightly cheaper but not reliable you have a provision of calling them should you have any questions before or during repair. plz dont forget to accept my soln

STKs are a couple of chips that you can buy from any electronics store like Radio Shack that have to be soldered onto the board. Without them, basically, no picture. They are fairly cheap but you need to know how to solder, Radio Shack can do it for you.

If its still in warranty, have a service person come look at it.
Online Request
or phone 1-800-726-7864

If its not in warranty, you could try to align the mirrors inside and risk breaking the whole tv or have someone give you an estimate and then decide on paying for service or a replacement.

Hey libra, do not exaggerate with technical definitions, STK are ICs and are power amps, not voltage regulators, just find this guy a replacement convergence board or send him to a technician.
Troubleshooting electronics is a serious matter.

Or replace convergence board without STKs for only $66 and mount your own ICs.

  • Ginko
    Ginko Aug 30, 2008

If you get "Check Fctory data" you need to access to service menu and re calibrate the convergence, it is not same as perfect focus, perfet focus is just preset convergence alignments the other is a service procedure.
Here is how to access to service menu

    On some models:
Put tv ond standby, try MUTE-1-8-3 hidden menu sequence on remote.

    or

TV has to be in Standby mode

    Press INFO

    Press MENU

    Press MUTE

    Press POWER
Then you must find convergence calibration, you need service manual to proceed.

the whole procedure is listed on service manual.
You can buy the service manual here

  • Ginko
    Ginko Aug 30, 2008

"check factory data" means you did not do Service Convergence calibrate procedure, looks like I talk to the wind here.

Look, if I post a comment it means I know it is true, if you keep refusing all comments without following anybody you only get a list of general comments, many of them may be just inaccurate information.

When you replace the convergence ICs or the convergence board, you need to perform a convergence calibration procedure.

To do the procedure you need the service manual and the remote.

I do not have service manual for your model, I know only how to enter on service mode.

Magic Focus it is not Convergence Calibration. Magic focus only set back convergence to a default value, Convergence calibration, among other settings, set the right value for auto focus after a new convergence board is installed.

Refuse this if you want, but this is what you need to do. Period.

convergence is the problem. first question do you have convergence in the customer setup menu. if you do not it could be a special small fuse if you do have "convergence" in the setup menu then you most likely have a convergence power board issue. and generally they are replaced. in our shop such board replacement average 124 labor and about 100 for part. if the fuse bout 15 for part and 80 for labor. there are solder connection that cause the blown fuse

The convergence IC's need to be replaced. they are the black standup IC's standing up and mounted on a metal heatsink. They are soldered into place and this set is a solid state set and have no user replaceable parts unless you have the training to solder and trouble shoot electronics. You should call a pro in to assist you with this repair.
