Question about Maytag Top Mount Refrigerator w/Cool Flow & Factory Ice - MTF2193AR - W/Q/B/S

1 Answer

The Freezer is cooling and after a few days the evaporator freezes up and blocks the vents thus preventing the air flow to get to the refrigerator. The Defrost Timer was changed from a 10hr. cycle defrost timer to a 6 hr. one which is functioning properly.

Our 2 door stainless ken more refrigerator is not cooling but the freezer is working good. Thanks for your help

Your evaporator fan is probably not running. Another thing to check is your freezer port to fresh food side. If you freezer is blocking the air flow your fresh food side will not cool. Find the vent to fresh food side and see if you have air flow, if no air flow you need a new evaporator fan.

Can you tell me why please?

All the big cooling happens inside freezer compartment. Freezer gives little cool air to fridge compartment. Now when the vent blocks that little cold air cannot go into fridge compartment. Thus your freezer works good but not fridge compartment. Milk goes bad but frozen meet keeps good.....

Vent freeze up either due to defrost problemt, defrost drain line problem, Evaporator fan problem or even can be your damper motor not opening due to unit failure or frozen damper door.

GE DL213908 Side by Side Refrigerator not freezing or cooling properly

It doesn't cool
  1. Condenser coils
Make sure you dust off the condenser coils to prevent dust build up and overheating due to it overworking. Simply unplug and use a long coil cleaning brush to get rid of debris.
  1. Check seals
If your refrigerator door seal is broken, warm air is pushing its way inside the unit, thus causing it to not cool properly. Prevent this from happening by replacing your seal and keeping the cool air inside.
  1. Temperature controls
Ensure that your thermostat is set correctly, usually 38-40 degrees Fahrenheit.
  1. Defective condenser fan
When this fan is defective, cold air is prevented from flowing through the vents. It may require replacement.
  1. Compressor issues
Check if there are clicking sounds coming from the compressor as it tries to start. If there is a clicking, it is one of only two options, either the start capacitor or a bad compressor. A start capacitor is fairly inexpensive whereas a sealed system repair on the compressor is very expensive and often not cost effective. Refrigerator Repair Help Troubleshooting and Parts

Evaporator fan is running but refrigerator side still not cool

Possibly blocked vent between fridge and freezer. could be ice or frozen food that has gotten in vent, blocking air flow. Also you say the fan is running but can you SEE IT? I have had occasion where the MOTOR is running but the fan blade is loose on the motor shaft. especially top freezer models.

Whirlpool 220L FF is not cooling neither on the refrigerator sector and very less cooling in freezer section. No air coming out from the vent section located in freezer compartment

Hi

Over time debris, ice or food particles can get stuck or lodged into the vents. If the vents are blocked cold air is unable to properly flow through the unit. Cleaning the vents will cause the cool air to circulate throughout the unit once more. Check the vent to be sure there is no ice that needs to be melted. Defrosting the unit with a blow dryer for faster results may solve your problem. Another place to check is the refrigerator seals. Seals are what keep the appliances door closed. Cracks in the seal will result in a loss of cool air. This causes the unit to run continuously, which can ultimately lead the complete unit to shut down. It can also be the reason the temperature has increased. It is also a possibility that your refrigerator is not cold because of the evaporator fan. The evaporator is activated by the door switch, which comes on when the door opens. If the switch is not working properly it will not turn on the evaporator fan.

FREEZER FREEZERS BUT THE REFIGERATOR WONT GET COLD

Hi,

Check the air return on the bottom left wall of the refrigerator side. Check for cold air flow at the top of the refrigerator when the compressor is running. If you feel no air flow, open the freezer door and see if you detect significantly more air flow after opening the freezer door. This could indicate a return air flow restriction and make sure that there no blocking of air vent at the top of refrigerator section that supplies the cold air from the freezer.Check the door seal gasket on the refrigerator for leaks.
If the vents and air flow paths in the refrigerator are proper, then check the back wall of the freezer for excessive frost. A defrost system problem could be preventing the refrigerator from cooling properly. If you do see excessive frost on the evaporator in the freezer, you may be able to restore proper cooling in the refrigerator by storing your food in an ice chest and then shutting off the refrigerator/freezer and letting the unit completely defrost for about 24 hours. Leave the doors open for air circulation. After the frost on the evaporator has defrosted, plug the unit back in and see if the refrigerator and freezer will cool properly.
If there is still same problem then you need to replace evaporator fan.

Hope this helps.

The upper portion of the freezer turns off, causing the ice to melt. And the cooler side bottom drawer turns into a freezer. I can't figure out what's going on.

You have a frost blocked evaporator. Translation: The cooling coils, located behind the back wall inside the freezer section, have plugged up with frost (usually caused by a burnt out defrost heater, located at the bottom of these coils) which prevents the cold air from circulating inside the freezer, and into the top of the fresh foods section. At the same time, this blocked air flow allows very cold air at the bottom of the freezer section to migrate back into the bottom of the fresh foods section, and thus freeze item in the bottom bins of the refrigerator. Unload the freezer, take the shelves out and remove the back panel. Melt the frost with a hair blower, and change out the heater at the bottom.

We left the freezer door open and now the refrigerator won't cool but the freezer works well

it could be food blocking the air flow, the evaporator is iced up in the freezer, the evaporator fan not running to push air around unit, the main/motherboard in the back is bad,the damper vent door not opening fully to let cold air in from freezer

Hollow ice cubes and refrigerator freezer drip pan is freezing

The drain at the bottom of the evaporator on the freezer rear wall is blocked up. Ice may have gotten so far up the side of the evaporator that it is blocking a return air duct which is located there. You need to completely deice the freezer and then **** out and purge the drain hole on the bottom of the evapotrator with hot water and a turkey baster.

GE top freezer refrigerator

The air flow vents must be blocked. The refrigerator cools from the freezer through those vents, it does not cool independently. They may be clogged in the case with ice. Turn the fridge off and leave doors open for a few hours to let it thaw and it will probably start working.
