First of make sure the unit is plugged into a live outlet. Test with a multimeter or a plug in reading lamp to be sure there is power there. If you have the set plugged into a power bar, try plugging the set directly into the wall outlet instead.

Next try turning the unit on with both the remote control and the power button right on the tv itself to ensure it is not just a problem with your remote control.

If you do have good power at the outlet and neither button will turn the unit on, then check to see if there are any lights at all on the front of the tv. Do they change color or flash when you plug in the tv or try to turn it on with the buttons?

Are you getting any sound from the speakers, or glow from the screen when you turn it on, or is the tv completely black and dead? You can try turning out the room lights while the tv is on to be sure there is not a faint glow from the screen.

Are you willing or capable of disassembling the tv to conduct basic electrical troubleshooting on the circuit boards and components inside the unit?

And approximately how much money would you be willing to spend to fix this unit? I only ask this because if you are unable to complete certain repairs yourself and need to bring the unit into a shop, then in some worst case scenarios, it is possible the total repair bill including labour may approach the cost of a brand new tv. However this is not always the case and some repairs are much less expensive to carry out.

Just comment back here to this page with as much of the information I requested as you can gather and I will assist you in determining the exact problem with your set and all your various options for resolving the issue.

Thank you very much.

Sorry about that, I wasn't sure of your skill level at first.

Well, it does sound like the power supply board as you suspected, but you would have to be pretty unlucky to get a bad replacement board as well.

I assume this is the combined power supply / inverter board that you replaced:

One thing you can try is leaving one of the connectors from the inverter board to the backlight disconnected and then powering the unit up. Try that for each of the backlight connectors in turn to see if one of them in particular is causing the fault condition shutdown. It may not work, but if you can isolate the problem to one bad backlight bulb, then that will give you some hope at least for a successful repair. If the problem is the LCD panel itself, then you probably know already that a cost effective repair is unlikely. Keep an eye out in your local online classifieds (like Kijiji) for a malfunctioning tv of the exact same model, or even place a free ad for one yourself. Often you can pick these up really cheap, and it makes for a good source of spare parts and a possible testing platform as well.

Here is a link to another expert's solution with a set of his excellent LCD Troubleshooting Guides which contain detailed instructions oh how to test the various components of your LCD tv. It might help you out in your own investigations.

Please rate his solution with a Thumbs Up if you find the information helpful.

    Good luck.

    OK, just so I'm clear...

You bought a new MAIN board and replaced it yourself but it did not help the problem.

You did NOT change the POWER SUPPLY / INVERTER board yet.

You visually examined the power supply / inverter board but did not find any bulging or leaking capacitors, and the original power supply / inverter board is still in the tv.

Please confirm that this is the case.

Also confirm the exact part numbers for the boards in your tv just to be sure. The numbers should be something like the following:

BA94F0F0102-2-A like the following main board:

BA94F0F0103-2-A like the following inverter board:

In most cases it is something on the power supply board which fails first. Bad capacitors are often pretty obvious, but sometimes they are not. One more thing you can look for is bad surface mounted fuses on the inverter board. They look a bit like the ones at the following link:

Sometimes they will look cracked or burnt if they are bad, and sometimes you can test them for continuity with a multimeter while the power is off. If you are really brave, I mean experienced, you can try testing the voltage (12V DC) on either side of them with a voltmeter while the tv power is on, but I do not normally recommend trying that for safety reasons.

If you are going to order a new board from EBay or wherever, make sure the part numbers are IDENTICAL. Sometimes it's just the last number that's different and it will cause it not to function. Also make sure that any board you buy off EBay is listed in the description as TESTED WORKING. If the description of the board says something like AS IS, then definitely stay away from it.

    OK, good luck.
