Question about Kenwood Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

I have just fitted a Kenwood head unit KDC-4551U in a Renault Megane but I can't dim the panel leds. Do you know which wire in the back of the HU is for dimming? Kind regards, Rob

Thanks for that, but I have already followed that procedure - it only dims the fluorescent display not the LEDs and they remain too bright for night-time driving. Do you think there may be a fault with the HU? Should the LEDs dim as well?

    Kind regards, Rob

Thanks mate, that was the conclusion I was reaching and I do appreciate your having confirmed it for me. Many thanks for your help.

    Kind regards,

    Rob

If you are talking about dimming the LED panel on the Kenwood unit itself, thee is no wire in the back for the control of the dimmer. This is controlled by pressing the Volume knob until you get into FUNCTION Mode, and then turning the knob until you see SETTINGS on the display, then pressing the knob to enter that mode. You would then turn the knob again until you see the word DISPLAY, then DIMMER SET. Turning it ON will dim the display and turning it OFF will cancel the dimming.

In case you do not have access to the instruction manual you can download it from the following website:

http://www.kenwood.eu/products/car/receivers/usb_receivers/KDC-4551UB/

Just below the word DOWNLOAD will be the link for the manual. Right click it and choose Save As.

The file is in the pdf format. If you don't already have the Adobe Free Reader you can download it from this website:

http://get.adobe.com/reader/

Just click on the orange box that has the word DOWNLOAD in it. If you save the file to your Desktop all you have to do is double-click the icon that it creates and the reader will install itself. You can then double-click the file for your manual and it will automatically load the reader and display itself in the reader.

Just double checked on that and the dimmer only works on the FL display and not the LED's. Not really sure unfortunately what you can do about their brightness. You would have to find a complete schematic, and then figure out where on the display circuit you would have to cut in and wire in your own dimmer circuit. Needless to say any kind of customization along those lines would immediately void your warranty.

Has anyone replaced the cd/radio head unit on a 2006 Mk2 Renault Megane and been able to retain the steering wheel controls and in-dash display using a non Renault radio? Pretoria/Centurion-S.A. area.

I have a 2004 Mk2 Scenic and when I bought it 18 months ago it was fitted with a non-Renault unit and that worked from the control stalks and showed up on the dash. I removed it and fitted the original unit back in as the previous owner wanted to keep the one that was fitted. I can't remember the make other than it was an expensive one. It was a straight un-plug the fitted unit and plug in the old one. No new wiring needed, so I am guessing that as long as you use the fitted plugs then the controls should still work. I hope that is of some help.

KDC-MP4032 head unit wont turn on

hi, seeing that your kenwood showed up "protect" you may have an audio circuit/amplifier fault within the unit. try resetting the unit to see if unit comes "on" again. if the unit comes on and protect flashes again, then you definitely have an internal audio circuit fault. if not then check all power connections(yellow and red wire voltages, as well as ground connection), as well as the condition of the face pins!

I have a kdc mp632u and i cant get any sound out of my subwoofers. The amp comes on and there is power to the amp but still no sound. can someone tell step by step what i have to do to get it to work with...

Hello,

First, make sure that the RCA's from the HU to your amp are properly connected, and fully seated on both ends. There are 2 sets of outputs. You should be using the ones on the left as you face the rear of the HU. Here is a link to the manual. Page 40 shows the connections on the back:

http://inform3.kenwoodusa.com/manuals/KDCX590.pdf

After making sure that everything is connected OK, check to see if you have the subwoofer output turned on your MP632U.

To do this, push the control knob on the right toward AM (toward the bottom). Subwoofer output switches off/on each time you push it. When it is on, the display reads "SW ON".

If this does not solve the problem, you most likely have a defect in either the HU or the amp.

Hope this helps! If it does, please rate as "FixYa." Thanks!

Got a new Kenwood KDC-128 car radio recently, fitted it but the radio presets would not stay when the ignition was turned off. Then it stopped working altogether and I noticed the 10amp fuse at the back...

you need to hook the yellow wire off the back of the radio up straight to the battery this keeps memory power to the head unit then wire the wires in color coded sequence red to red black to black so on and so forth if this doesnt fix it you might want to think about replacing head unit

Kenwood kdc-mp528 amp/speaker problem???

This is a common mistake. This problem indicates that you are using the solid blue wire from the head unit to the remote turn-on on the amp. This is a power antenna wire that only receives power when on FM radio. You need to replace this with the Blue & White wire from the head unit (power control wire) to your remote turn-on on your amp. This should solve your issue.
