You can not blame the people who are trying to help.
The more information you can give the better the diagnosis.
This , from your information, sounds like the defrost timer has stopped half way through it's cycle. A new defrost timer may be needed.
Find the defrost timer, advance the motor forward until it clicks. the compressor should now start and cool the fridge.

There is a light in my freezer. but, it doesn't get cold

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You are locked into the defrost mode. This is where every 8-10 hours your unit will completely shut down except for the lights. At this time your defrost heater turns on for 20-30 minutes to defrost the evaporator (Cooling) coils in your freezer.

You can manually turn your unit back on, until you get a new defrost timer. If you have a up right freezer your defrost timer is in the lower back. It is mounted on a metal plate.

With a flat head screw driver turn the stem slowly one click at a time until your unit turns on. Once a day repeat this process to put your unit back into defrost until the timer is replaced.

If you have a top freezer the defrost timer is located on the top of the fresh food section on the left. Do the same thing. The cost of the timer is about $30.00.

Send me your model number located on the side front wall of your fresh food section and I will proved you with the part number and walk you through the repair.

My freezer has ice and fridge does not cool. Admiral signature model HMG 19802. Any ideas

Sounds like you have a defrost problem. First thing check if you fan motor in the freezer is running. You can open the freezer door and press in the door switch and listen to the fan motor. if fan motor is running, you have a problem in the defrost system. if not, you have a bad door switch or fan motor. (not very common)
to test defrost system: Locate defrost timer (under front kick plate) and rotate slowly until you hear a click. After a few minutes you will start hearing crackling sound and see water flowing down the drain line.
if defrost is working, replace the defrost timer. if not, you either have a bad defrost heater or def. thermostat. best think is to replace both.
for more accurate instructions, we need more detailed description of problem

Model number HTR16ABSERWW

You have a bad defrost timer .
The defrost timer is a timer dial you turn to bring compressor on.
Get model and serial number of freezer/fridge and buy a new defrost timer and install and everything should be fine

My side-by-side refrigerator freezer, the coils in freezer ice up, and the refrigerator section get's warm. What is the problem?

OK'Lets start with the defrost timer located below refrigerator and front kick plate. Turn timer until it cklick into a position that stops fans and compressor. Leave like this for about 30 minutes. Listen inside the freezer for sounds od sizzling or crackling sounds the sounds of defrost. If timer does not automactically come ou of defrost turns gently again clockwise until the compressor starts. Let me know what you find, Sea Breeze

Auto defrost is broken

Find the defrost timer and turn it with a screw driver (will only go clockwise) until it clicks.n wait 10-15 min. If the defrost starts to work (Freezer will get warmer heaters kick on) the timer is bad. If not you will need to check the deforst heater (behind back panel of freezer) and thermostat (silver cylinder with 2 wires on the evap coil) The timer is eithr under the box behind the kick plate (clean the coil while you are there) inside the refrigerator (look in the top for a small hole with a funny knob) or back behind the frig near the compressor( clean here as well).

If it goes into defrost and defrosts, rotate the timer until it clicks again and the compressor should start again.

Most GE's have a diagram on the back that shows componet locations

Mayatg gc2327pw fridge section has stopped working the freezer is still operating. The cold air is not comming out of the vent at the back of the fridge section.

The first thing I would check is the defrost timer located in the fresh food section behind the control panel. Turner timer clockwise until compressor stops running. Leave in that position for up to 30 min. or until refrigerator restarts. If unit does not restart turn again until it starts and replace timer. #13 in picture Part number 61003601 at my site

Refrigerator is somewhat cold as is the freezer side but the freezer side is not generating freezing temperatures. Same temperature btw the refrigerator & freezer. Model 596.50392001. Any suggestions?

Your refrigerator has a defrost timer located near the floor and behind the kick plate. Remove the kick plate grill and turn the timer slowly clockwise until refrigerator compressor stops running. Leave it there for about 30 minutes or until refrigerator restarts. During this time the refrigerator should be in the defrost cycle. Open the freezer and you will possibly hear a crackling noise or the noise of water sizzling as it drips from the evaporator to the defrost heater. If your refrigerator does not restart after this time then turn the timer again slowly until the compressor restarts. If you do this then the timer will need replaced If no defrost takes place during this time then we need to move to the rear of the freezer and unplug the refrigerator and do some test on the defrost heater. Let me know how this worked out for you. The part number for your defrost timer is 10530703
Thanks, Sea Breeze

Bosch Classixx Frost Free KGU34640GB/06

You have found where the problem is and now you must find what the problem is. The freezer is not defrosting tells you the problem is there. Defrost of the freezer coil is started by a timer, the time energizes the heaters, when termination temperature is reached the defrost thermostat opens, the timer continues until the time expires (18-22 minutes). First locate the timer, rotate the clutch head screw SLOWLY clockwise until on e click is heard. The heaters should come on a defrost take place. If timer restarts the system after the time period check the heaters for continuity. If no reading on an Ohm meter replace the heaters. If you find the heater O.K. by a continuity reading, check the defrost thermostat.

Lights are on but nothing else

Checked the switch in the freezer and it was bad. Odd time for it to go out, but it was not working and it would work intermittently if you shook it.
