Question about GE Profile 25.6 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Thru-the-Door Ice and Water - Stainless-Steel

My GE side by side refrigerator model PSC25MSWA has a problem. The temperature in the freezer and the refrigerator don't stay at the settings that I want (0/37) and flcutuate from day to day. Sometimes the ice cubes melt and drip down the back wall, along with the food on the top shelf few shelves, melt. We had a technicain out to look at it and they are saying that it looks like we need gas (freon?) and also our coils needed to be cleaned + we had to defrost the refrigerator overnight since their was a solid ice patch on the refrigerator side read lower. Trying to find out if the techs that came out knew what they were doing as I see other posts here about changeing the motherboard, etc. Unit is 4 years old. Please help.

HI no these techs are wrong, you need to change the motherboard, gas/freon leaks are less than 2% of failures on GE refrigerators. Change the board and you will be fine.

    Is it difficult to change the motherboard? We just paid these guys almost $400 to do the above fix (they added the freon - saying the gas was low) and I suspected that they didn't know what they were doing.

    did you physically see them add freon? If they did and it didnt need it they couldve damaged sealed system, boare is fairly simple to change there is a panel on the rear of fridge thats a rectangle about 8x10 inches its in there it just plugs in has a couple clipss holding it in you just match up the wires from old to the new, but if they added freon then it might have more than the board wrong with it, most people arent dumb enough to add freon without checking the board first.

    We saw the can, the empty purged valve, the meter that was "registering the level". They took the board off first and my husband says that they told us that the board was fine. He said that they said they checked it. Not sure how they could do that. They also installed a sensor in the refrigerator side to monitor the temperature and defrost the coils if needed on that side. They checked the compressor and the 'fan' and said they were OK. Of course now it is working fine, but we only have a 90 day warranty on the work. Hope we didn't throw out our money. Sounds like we might have. Do you know what the part number is for the motherboard in case I need it?

    I would have to look that one up, but you can goto any major appliance part store or online and give them the model and they will give it to you, i dont have my part lookup on me right this second, but if it is working i would go with that, but this model if it was leaking, and they just added gas, it will leak out again, might not be 5 months could be a year, but the most common leak on these is in the evaporator i've changed quite a few evaporators on these, and $400 to put freon in is waaaaaay expensive, should be more like $125.00. We put the entire evaporator in charge it fully with freon and a new drier for $400 and that wouldve permanently fixed your problem.

    Our fix just broke. We called and the techs are coming out tomorrow morning. You were probably right. I just hope that they don't try to charge us more money after charging us $400 to install freon + a sensor in the refrigerator.

    To break that fast doesnt sound like a leak at all or its not a freon problem, if you can get GE service i would recommend it but only problem is you got 400 with that company, i would ask for a refund since they didnt fix it right and try to get GE out there, problems with sealed systems are very hard to diagnose if i'm not there in person.

GE Profile refriderator PSC25MSWA is frosting/icing on bottom of Refriderator side

Try defrosting entire unit. Put all food, freezer and refrigerator sides in coolers with ice. Unplug unit and wait at least 24 hours for unit to completely defrost, if neccessary open doors, plug unit back in and see how unit functions. By doing this lines that carry freon should become unclogged.

GE Profile, bottom, freezer Freezer does not stay at 0 degrees. With uses during the day it gets up to 20 degrees. Ice cream does not stay frozen. This happens mostly in the summer. Once it get cold...

most refregerator..usually open the door at day it will not keep on required temperature o degreefrequent opening refrigerator,must be adjust the thermostat to higher setting..

GE Profile Fridge Model No. PSC25MSWA SS not making ice

Check to see if there is any obstruction (object of any kind) in the ice cube mold area. If nothing found, you will have to replace the icemaker, as individual repair parts are not available.
