Question about Cell Phones

Open Question

Have a Uniden DXI 4286-2 cordless telephone, with one base unit and one remote. High pitched squealing sound in both handsets; but, squealing eliminated with increasing distance from either ear. (User does not have hearing aides!) Bring the handset close to either ear and squealing intensifies until almost unbearable. The base unit and handset disconnected and removed to be reconnected at an electrical outlet and telephone jack in the far corner of house and where distant from any computer or electrical device, with no change in squealing. Disconnected wireless computer router-modem with no change in squealing. Applied a smear of Vaseline on the receiver of one handset which dampened but did not eliminate the squealing. Removed batteries from both handsets with base unit unplugged, followed by simultaneously pressing the "#" and "*" keys while reconnecting the batteries to reset the handsets and replugging in the base unit with no change in the squealing. Totally disconnected the base unit from telephone jack and electrical outlet for 1 hr, followed by reconnecting, with no change in squealing. The only solution for eliminating the squealing is having the handsets approximately > 6" from the side of one's head or ear; but, while the squealing tends to stop, one can barely hear the caller. Uniden tech support could only suggest a mal-functioning internal component; but, this does not explain why the squealing dissipates with distance from one's ear. Would seem the natural electrical activity in the brain or side of one's head is being implicated. So what is the story, I wonder....

SOURCE: no electrical outlet available for the base station (wall mounted)

AFAIK there is no answering machine that will work without being connected to an electrical outlet, neither will the caller ID. The corded handset on the base unit will work, but that is it. The base uses the AC power to transmit and receive to/from the cordless so you won't be able to use the cordless handset with out the base being connected to AC.

Hello
Just unplug the base unit from AC wall power socket for a while, say for about 5 minutes or so, replugh the base unit to power socket again. Place each handset on it and synchronise it with the base unit. As you put it on, you will hear a beep sound. Now the ahndset ahs been synchronised with base unit. Do this for the other two handsets. OK.

Hi,

Re: "compatible extension hand set"

Have you tried Uniden DXI-986-2 900 MHz Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Extra Charging Cradle. You would have to disable the base of the main unit of the Uniden and simply use it as a cradle/charger. Additionally, it may be to your advantage to bring along your Radio Shack Hand set when trying/buying the Uniden to see it they will pair up.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Sounds like you need to re-register the 2 handsets that are not working properly. Sometimes the handsets must first be de-registered then re-registered to the base unit. Send a comment with the model number of the base unit and handsets if they are not original handsets and I will give specific information for your phone. I have included a link where you can download the manual for your Uniden cordless phone by model number.

Hi,

This is because of the following reasons

2.The base unit is not plugged in to the power supply. Please check it.

Uniden 5.8ghz cordless W/2handsets has no dial tone cannot call out or recieve calls

There can be a lot of different things that could cause this. The first thing I would do is disconnect the telephone cord from the Uniden phon eand connect it to another telephone and see if you get a dial tone from it. If you do then we know that the telephon eline and the cord are OK so we go back to the Uniden telephone. Next, does the unit light up when you plug it in? are you sure that the telephone is getting AC Power? Are the displays on the handsets working? Does the handset display show "Handset XX" or does it show "Searching"? If it shows "Handset XX" then the base unit is getting power, if not the base unit may not be getting power.
If the base unit is getting power and the handsets are working and the power cord and jack were proven good by conecting another phone to them, then you would need to call uniden Customer Service for further trouble shooting or repair/replacement. the number is 1-800-297-1026

Can't hear phone ringing

Adjusting the Ringer Volume (From the Uniden manual)

You can choose from four ringer volume settings (off, low, medium, and high) separately on each handset or the base.
  1. With the phone in standby, press ArrowUp or Arrow Down on the handset or VOLUME + or VOLUME - on the base. The handset or base sounds the ringer at that level.
  2. Use Arrow Up on the handset or VOLUME + on the base to make the ringer volume louder.
  3. Use Arrow Down on the handset or VOLUME - on the base to make it softer or turn it completely off.
  4. When you hear the ringer volume level you want to use, stop pressing keys.
  5. The handset or base will use the new ringer volume starting with the next incoming call.
  6. If you set the ringer volume to Off, the handset or base won’t ring.
  7. Other handsets or base will ring according to their individual settings.
