Question about Comfort-Aire EKTH15-150J Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have a Heat Controller EKTH15-150J PTAC. Of lat,e toward the end of winter here in southern Missour,i the unit while in heat mode has been randomly blowing cold air. Often you can shut off the unit and let it sit for awhile and when you turn it back on it will come up heating again. A couple of years ago I replaced the control board that had been killed by a lightning induced power surge with a RSKP006 control board kit. It has run fine since, until the last few months. Sometimes I can put the unit into cool for a second and back into heat and it will blow hot air again, but not always. I can't find a lot of logic to its behavior. I have an electronics repair background, but not a lot of HVAC experience.

Your problem sounds more like a reversing valve issue.
The reversing valve will tend to stick and not close completely causing cool air instead of warm.
Check the low voltage wires to the control board(usually orange) and the 24 volt signal at the reversing valve.
The r/v coil could also be intermittent.
When you switch the system to cool, then back to heat, the reversing valve is activating. That leads me to believe it is sticking.
Also check the defrost time on the board.
They are usually changeable from 30/60/90 minutes.
If not already set for 90,change it to 90 minutes.
Last but not least, observe the outdoor unit when it does this cool air thing.
If the unit has an ice buildup and is not defrosting correctly, that can be a sign of a bad defrost thermostat or a bad control board.
When the unit correctly goes into defrost mode it should also turn on inside heat strips to compensate for the cool air entering the ducts.

Amana Wall unit blows cold air before heating

the unit works by chilling air and the byproduct is heat in the compressor, this is used for heating in the winter and then reversed in summer to blow cold air. It has to blow cold and warm up before it can blow heat.

I have a FEDDERS PTAC/HP -07B/09B/12B/15B. It blows cold air only. NO HEAT!

First of all check your unit model has heater system. And then

Toget proper heat, keep your temp setting at 30+ degree and also mode in "heat"position. If still no heat, check your heating sensor for closed circuit by anOHMs metre. It it's with RV, check power to RV.If it's with heatingelement check power to element. If power is there but still no heat meanselement defective. Replace new heating element. Thanks.
