Question about Kenmore 44423 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a recurring problem with my Kenmore side by side refrig (59652673202). Occasionally it stops cooling on both sides. When unplugged it seems to reset itself after a while (maybe a week) and cools again. The fans works and blows when this phenomenom occurs. Coils are clean, Help!

Sounds reasonable. Are there any more photos of the procedure you could provide? Sears Direct site is down, any idea of the cost?

I already ordered and received the overload relay. It is identical to what you described. When i openned the back rear of the fridge, i discovered that it is missing. It appears that the Sears Tech (who needed 2 visits to complete the repair last year) replaced it with a different capacitor and rerouted the wires. I will send photos shortly.

Many times this happens when the compressor relay/overlaod starts going bad.
here is a link showing you the part which is attached to the side of your compressor. Without it your compressor will not run.Part number 4 on the diagram. The unit is not resetting itself but cooling down. The relay and or compressor becomes to hot to run and will shut down. Therefore when given enough time to cool down it will restart. Please read the couple of paragraphs on the subject below. Please post any other questions you may have.

I hear a clicking noise or freezer and refrigerator are warm
This is the most common repair for this issue.

Start Relay

The clicking could be the start relay. If the start relay is bad, the compressor will not start and you will hear a clicking noise in 2-5 minute intervals. The clicking noise is the overload cutting the compressor off when it overheats from trying to start with a bad start relay. To find out if this is bad first unplug the refrigerator.
Remove the lower rear cover from your refrigerator. Then take the cover off that is on the side of the compressor, you will see wires going to this (Photo below). Now you should be able to see the start relay plugged on to the side of the compressor and unplug it. Now the best way to tell if it's bad is to shake it. If it rattles, it's bad and needs to be replaced. Inspect it carefully for any burn marks, if it has any replace it. If not, most of the time it's ok.

. A quick check on the compressor is to remove the start relay. You will see 3 pins connect a multi meter set for continuity. You should have continuity between any of the 3 pins. If you do not the compressor is bad. Also check from each pin to a good ground on the cabinet. There should be no continuity if there is the compressor is bad. A 3 in 1 start relay can also be used as a substitution. Just make sure it is rated for the horsepower of the compressor. If you replace it and it doesn't work then the compressor is bad and you

Fridge not cooling or freezing

Hi,
You can start with replacing the start capacitor and relay to see if the compressor will run again, but you have about a 50 -50 chance that the compressor has gone bad and will need to be replaced....

Freezer has stuck in defront and stops cooling

Yours has a defrost timer board inside the fresh food compartment and behind the control panel. The only way to stop this is by replacing the board. Part number 4388932 and here is a view of its location inside the fresh food compartment. Just be sure the power is unplugged while working with board.

Sounds like you need a new relay for the compressor. Unplug from wall and check the compressor see if realy that is attached to pins on compressor, is burnt.

Refrig shut off and will not restart - light bulbs still working

this refrigerator sounds like a 'frost free' type, and as such can, usually, only be repaired by the manufacturer. local refrigeration engineers cannot get the parts. your fault sounds like a PCB (printed circuit board) has gone, which only the manufacturers have in stock.

Kenmore Elite refrigerator stops cooling - Relay keeps cycling

the relay on the compressor is most likely the culprit part# 8201786 you can buy it at the local sears parts and repair center it is very easy to replace it. your refrig compartment will start warming up soon. to prevent damage to your compressor probably a good idea to unplug the refrig until you get the part replaced..
