This happened to me its probably too late for you but might help others. what i did to fix this is, I put the tv onto a radio channel (with no picture) and about 10 mins later i turned the volume down and realised the screen was still on as the volume bar showed up. so i guessed it the problem was to do with light so i went on the menu and went into features and turned the backlight onto minimum and the tv has been fine since. hope this helps!

This has JUST happened to me. The screen comes on okay, then 15 seconds later it goes OFF again. The TV programme is still on and if I shine a light onto the screen at an angle, I can JUST make out the TV programme. After reading this, I managed to get into the menu before the TV went off again. I did find an option for 'Backlight' and it was set to 'Auto'. I set it to maximum instead and TV is fine again. Don't know WHY it suddenly started acting up. It's been FINE for AGES. Thanks for the advice. I REALLY can't afford and engineer and thought I was going to be stuck without a TV.

Contrary to my above statement, it did not solve the problem. This part is for people - like me - who don't know how an LCD TV actually WORKS. The screen itself is the part in front. Behind the visible screen is the 'backlight'. This is the same thing used in Nintendo GBAs and DSs. The LCD screen itself is not lit up in any way. The screen just displays the images you watch. Without light, the screen is invisible (almost). The 'backlight' is quite literally that. A light that is BEHIND your LCD screen. It shines THROUGH the LCD screen and allows you to SEE the TV picture. In instances like this, it seems that - as others have stated - the backlight is faulty. Thankfully in my case, it seems to have been a temporary measure, caused - no doubt - by the fact that my flat is humid with it being Winter and me not opening the windows, coupled with the fact that I haven't turned ON my TV in a number of DAYS. Once my TV had warmed up and dispelled the humidity from the circuits, it is working fine. I got lucky. There will come a time though when the circuit WILL burn out. I just hope that that time will not come for QUITE some time. :) If your screen goes blank after a few seconds, try what I did. Leave it turned on for a while then turn it off and try again. It could just be something as simple as humidity on the circuits.

Most likely you either have a defective backlight inverter, bad back lamp. Based off of your model #, I'm gonna lean towards a back lamp.

ALBA 32 INCH FLATSCREEN AFTER 10 SECONDS SCREEN GOES BLACK BUT SOUND IS FINE?

Check for dust blocking the air vents as this will cause the TV to over heat but I would expect it to take longer than 10 seconds.

You have one or more lamps shorted in your panel. The you need to replace your panel, but it would be more cost effective to buy a new TV.

hi all the black screen solution for me was this (this is assuming you have alba brand tvs and have the black screen BUT can still hear the sound) i after much fekkin around with it eventually found the solution in it (its the bloody backlight brightness in the settings you need to turn it from high TO LOW) ....... now this can be a bit tricky because usually when you have the black screen problem if u unplug the tv for a few hours and plug it back in you only get or should get probably like 30-1min of picture time before the picture goes black so u have to be reallllly fast with the menu button to get into settings before the picture dies (i learned the sequence for my alba lcd32880hdf) it was the following (for this part use the remotes arrows the one with the ok button usually in the centre of them) turn the tv on then click menu then press the up key 2 times then press ok then use the right arrow/button twice (although u cant see what ur doing ur navigating the menu hehe) then press the down arrow/button seven times before finally pressing the left arrow/button (once) <-- (now this bit may need to be done twice if you can remember setting ur backlight to max use it twice it will put it on minimum if in doubt only press it the once remember to totally power the tv off before repeating the steps to reset menus default posistions) remember thats the solution i found for my tv stands to reason (since i did infact buy another tv same brand different model which got the same problem) that this could be a solution for all alba tv users try it worked for me 2 times if ur not sure of the menu look up you tv models menu navigation online to find out the buttons you press gl hopefully it works for you too

TV goes to green, sound stays on a few seconds then TV shuts off.

Sounds like you have a bad picture tube. More than likely the CRT could be shorted, which would cause the set to shut down.
My first advise would be to power up the set with an isolation transformer with the voltage about 60% approx. 72 Volts AC, and monitor what happens when you increase the voltage slowly.
If the set remains on at 60 -70 %, then when increased to 90 - 100% it shuts down, you have something drawing too much current ( which could be the CRT )

I would suspect that the optical pickup is faulty. However Alba sets are manufactured in Albania therefore parts are not readily available.
