Question about Sony DSC-T7 Digital Camera

1 Answer

LCD screen went black

I got water spilled on my Sony DSC-T7 Digital Camera. Immediately I took memory card & battery out. Next day worked perfectly, I even used it. The next day screen went black again. Everything seems to work, I can ever take a picture (only can view pictures when downloaded) can’t view it on the LCD Screen what so ever. I’ve turn on the camera to see if it works, it will for a minute or then go black.

Before I take to a repair shop, is there anything I can do to fix the problem?

No. It is likely that there is still water in it. It's very important that you take the battery out and do not try to use it. Take it to a repair shop and be SURE to tell them it had water in it so they can take the appropriate steps to clean and protect it.

After submerging my DSC T7 under water with the use of the proper water casing Cyber-shot SPK-THA, the control buttons to the left of the viewing screen and the focus control on top started malfunctioning....

Other than your camera has had it, there may be some residual dampness still shorting circuits.

Again remove battery and open any orifices you can and put it in the airing cupboard or any where warm for a few days then try again.

My sony dsc-w1 got very wet, caught in a rainstorm and did not have the case. I have left it dry out for 4 days and it turns on, lcd works, can read memory stick and display old pictures on the lcd. But...

Maybe the shutter got wet and sticky. You can try look into the lens then press shutter button to take picture. If you don’t see the movement inside the hole, the shutter doesn’t open, it will take black picture.

Pictures upload ??

Yes, you can upload picture on memory card in camera and can playback in camera as well.
Make sure that picture files are JPG format and file name must be DSC00001 to DSC99999, other then that camera will not show file in playback though memory card have it.
Connect camera with computer, click My Computer >> Removable Disk >> 101MSDCF folder and copy / paste files there.

My camera got wet!!

If water did get into the camera then your going to have many issues and since it might have been saltwater, your camera is probably history. Don't forget to save the memory card.

Repairing Sony H7

I HATE TO SAY THIS, BUT DROPPING IT IN SALT WATER IS ABOUT LIKE THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH ON YOUR COMPUTER. SALT WATER BEING VERY CORROSIVE WILL, IF NOT HAS RUINED ANY WORKING PARTS AND CIRCUITS IN THE CAMERA. DRYING IT DOES NOT REMOVE THE SALT AND THE DAMAGE WILL BE TO SUCH AN EXTENT THAT REPAIR WILL BE ALL BUT IMPOSSIBLE. THERE JUST ISN'T ANY FIX FOR SOMETHING LIKE SALT WATER. I'M SURE THAT INSERTING THE BATTERY MOST LIKELY SHORTED OUT CIRTCUITS INSIDE THE CAMERA. THERE JUST ISN'T MUCH HELP HERE EXCEPT A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR IF YOU COULD FIND ANYONE WHO WOULD EVEN WORK ON A SALT WATER DAMAGE. WATER AND CAMERAS JUST DON'T MIX.

DSC-T7 Locked up "USB Mode Normal"

I am a user with the exact same problem as you desribed for my DSC-T7. My problem started when I splashed two drops of water need the battery door and then the camera would not power up. I removed battery and card for a day and camera worked fine for another day. The following day, I left my camera in my sun visor of my car for the day (>90 deg F outside) which I forgot that I put it there. The next day my camera did power up in the locked mode exactly as yours. I do not know if it was the water drops or the heat but it is doing exactly as you desribe. However, here is something that I have discovered while trying to get the camera to work: 1. I plugged the adapter into the side of the camera since I am concerned that the USB port is the issue. 2. I plugged the USB cable into my portable printer and powerer the printer up and then turned on the camera in all three modes to see if anything changed and it did not. 3. I have found if you turn off the printer with the USB cable still in the printer and the adapter, the camera then enters a mode that shows thw word "ACCESS" and then the camera works perfectly. All modes of the camera work fine. But as soon as you power up the printer or remove any of the cables or remove the adapter the camera reenters the locked mode. This is not a solution but an indicator that the USB port is possibly causing the problem but not sure why the printer being off causes the camera to work fine. In addition, have all of the cables hooked up and to the printer does not allow the camera to be used with any mobility but wanted to let you know what I have discovered and hopefully maybe this may lead to a potential solution.
