Compose the picture, then lightly press the shutter release button to set focus and exposure. Press the self-timer button on the left top of the camera (marked with one-handed clocks) to start the self-timer. If you hold the button down for three seconds you'll get two shots, otherwise just one.

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Here's a link to this great service

Good luck!

I now use this lens on Nikon N5005 and want to purchase the D5000 camera. Is this lens compatible?

Yes and no. The lens will fit on the D5000 without a problem. But the sensor on the D5000 is smaller than a frame of 35mm film so you'll end up using only the center portion of the image. What this amounts to is that the lens will act like a 115-450 zoom would on the N5005. Also, if the lens doesn't have a focus motor built in (Sigma calls it HSM) then it won't autofocus on the D5000. You can still focus manually, though.

Cannot turn OFF self timer mode on Nikon coolpix 8400.

Press the self-timer button (marked with a one-handed clock) once for ten-second delay, twice for three-second delay, three times to cancel timer.

N5005 will not advance film when loading.

As I stated in a second posting, I found that the previous owner had left leaky batteries in the camera. when I removed the bottom cover I found some corrosion on the bottom of the motor gear assembly.I' m thinking of trying to remove the motor assembly and see if it's free. What led me to the motor was the fact that when I tried to load film and it did not wind I set the camera down for about 5 to 10 minutes. when I came back and picked up the camera, I noticed that the motor drive battery area was very warm. This led me to remove the bottom of the camera. Seeing the rust on the gears makes me think some might be stuck. If that's the case, I'm going to try and see if I can free them and go from there.

Remove the lens from camera.
Look inside pass the mirror, how is the shutter?
Should be flat with the film with no warp or opened shutters.

Or try this:

Lens out, set camera to M (manual mode).
Shutter set at 1 (One Second).
No flash.
800 ISO
Lnes drive pin (recessed) fully into the body, not S or C.
Fresh batteries.
Set self timer on.
Press shutter button.
Camera should blink and then shutter should be tripped.

This will also check to see if you have enough power for min. of one shot.

Nikon N5005 - No Shutter Release

The lens aperure ring must be set to the highest number, ( IE, smallest aperture, f22,f32 ) for the camera to work in full auto. Also, with the ASA set to DX, the camera will not release without film.
