I am having a hard time figuring out how to program a group extension with about 5 or so people included in this group. The manual I have is from 1996 and I don't see anything in there as far as setting up group extensions. Any info?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Have you checked the user manual? See if you can get hold of or a sight of the service manual. Check manufacturers website some of them have qutpite extensive q&a forums. It's worth checking there. Other sources include enthusiast groups and classic car groups.
I have downloaded several manuals for the Avaya by searching online, some are good basic user guides and some very technical. You can pick up a call in several different ways - here is a copy from the manual on call pick ups:
2.2.2 Call Pickup
If you hear another phone ringing, there are a number of ways that you can answer the call if you know the user, group
or line being called.
1.If already on a call, end the call by pressing Drop or put it on hold by either pressing Hold or pressing the
button which the call is on.
2.Press an idle Intercom or Call Appearance button.
· To pickup a call ringing at a particular extension:
Dial 6 followed by the extension number at which the call is ringing or parked.
· To pickup the longest waiting call in a pickup group:
Dial 66 followed by the pickup group number (1 to 4).
· To pickup the call ringing on a particular line:
Dial 68 followed by the two digit line number.
3. You can continue the call handsfree or switch to using the handset or headset (press the HEADSET button).
To Create a Call Pickup Button (ETR 18D/ETR 34D Phone)
1.At the phone press Feature 00.
2.Program Extension: is shown on the display.
3.Press the button that you want to edit or enter a number between 03 to 80 to select a button. The current setting
of the button is displayed.
4.Press the first intercom or call appearance button.
5.Dial 6 followed by the target extension number.
6.The button function is changed to Call Pickup followed by the target extension number.
· Exit programming by pressing Feature 00. You can also exit programming mode by lifting the handset, then
placing it back in the cradle.
To Use a Call Pickup Button
1.Press the Call Pickup programmed button
Hunt group buttons are just like lines, they occupy to first buttons on the phone. The only way to move a hunt group button is up or down the list of lines. If you want it first, you have to remove all assigned line from the extension to be changed this includes the hunt group. Now come out of programming and go back in to the extension. Add the lines or hunt group in the order you want them. NOTE IF THE LINES ARE TO BE OUT OF ORDER NUMERICALLY, YOU HAVE TO ADD THE ONES THAT ARE IN ORDER AND LEAVE PROGAMMING AND COME BACK IN AGAIN. THIS SETS THE ORDER OF APPEARANCE.
My list to tackle this for any car: ----------------------------------------------- maint. manual (Haynes manual perhaps - $20 any auto parts store) - telling timing mark alignment procedure & marks, including whether or not engine is an interference-running engine (or not). pulley puller(s) - several serpentine belt removal kit - if needed, try Loan-a-tool program at Advance/Autozone socket set - with extensions, U-joints, English/metric - extensive version general tool kit - extensive version, including flashlight with spare batteries lighting - I like (2) 120V utility lights on extension cords (one high & one low) cardboard sheets (to lay upon while under car) newspaper - to absorb any dripped fluids (there are always drips) shade tree - so a multi-day project needn't be done in direct sunlight tarp - to cover everything in case of rain key to car - to lock toolboxes inside car trunk during lunch/overnight cardboard trays - hold tools/parts in logical groups atop engine while job in progress sheet(s)/cardboard sheet(s) -protect car upholstery in case you want to put something in the interior paper towels (roll), rags work-type clothing - something that can get dirty trash bags (smaller shopping bag type) - for disposables/dirty parts
Which system? Ring groups are set up with 500-529 access codes, notably 529 is the one for voice mail. Look in your installers guide for MMC that deals with HUNT groups and assign the extension to a new group.
If you need a manual, post back with your system model.
When the system was installed, if you or your installer programmed it properly you set up ICD groups. Each extension that you want to ring goes into the members of the group and you can specify how the phones ring. It will also blink the buttons on incoming calls and you can pick up the call from anywhere by just pressing the button.
The programming manual is pretty specific on how to set ICD groups up. Your 5 fing delay is fairly long, so other factors need to be considered regarding intercept and No Answer call forwarding.
It's beyond the scope of a free forum to give specific programming help.
Well that is better than most people in finding the arrows...
Ok, first you need to know the extensions that you want to program to ring, and the lines, record these numbers... if you do not know the extension numbers and actual line numbers; going to each set, and doing a FEATURE * 0 and the Intercom and line buttons this will tell you the extension number and line number (this also tells you what is on every button).
Then goto your set and put in: -> FEATURE 2 6 6 3 4 4 -> Password: 2 6 6 3 4 4 Now you will have to look at your LCD for 3 arrows <- Heading....Enter-> <- Back .......Next-> You will not see these words in the LCD display, you just have to look for the arrows that correspond. -> you will now see “TERMINALS&SETS” and press Enter (the top right arrow key) -> now put in the extn that you want to change (Eg. 227). -> you should now see the extension number“227: NAME” ->press Enter (the top right arrow key) again -> you will now see “LINE ACCESS” -> press ENTER -> you will now see “LINE ASSIGNMENT” -> and Enter -> now you can type in the lines that you want to ring on this extension (Eg. 025 for line 5) -> hit CHANGE till it says "APPR&RING" (Appear and ring means that the line will have a button on the set) -> hit NEXT to save changes -> press FIND to look for more lines and change the appropriate lines to appear and ring -> then the RLS button (the little orange button) to exit programming.
After this programming is done, dial Feature * 0 and look for these new lines.
