Our GE Arctica was making a buzzing noise. It sounded to me as though the fan blades were contacting something. That noise has stopped but the temperature is now creeping up in both the freezer and the fridge. A service guy came out and replaced the board but it didn't help. He seemed to think it is the evaporator system and we should consider a new fridge. I can't help but think it is a bad fan somewhere. Please help!
Ok couple more things, is the fan running in the right now and making a buzz noise or did it stop? And do you know the part # of the board he put in?

It's possible that the fan blades are hitting ice, frost, or debris, causing the noise. The fan might also be struggling to turn if there's any obstruction or if it's damaged
If the refrigerator is noisy or loud, especially when one of the doors are opened, either the evaporator or condenser fan blade may be at fault. First, check out the evaporator fan blade in the freezer behind the back panel. Try turning it by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, check to see if the blade is rubbing against something or if something is caught in the blade. Additionally, check the condenser fan blade in the back underside of the refrigerator to determine if it has any obstructions.
Behind the back panel you will find the freezer fan motor. unplug and take everything out. take the back panel off and find the fan. stick something in the blade like a bannana or whatever (no rags or paper towels though) just something to jam the blade (its plastic so dont break it) replug. remove whatever you put to jam the blade and if you hear the sound then you know for sure it is the fan. got to replace fan if you want the noise to stop
if it is not the fan let me know
hope this helped
Could be the evaporator fan motor about to fail or the evap fan blade touching something. If the fan is controlled by a door switch, opening the door would deactivate the motor and the noise would stop. Depress the door switch and see if you can locate the exact source of the noise.
First things first - pull the fridge/freezer out from the wall, and look at the bottom. You should see a metal coil somewhere - it probably needs to be cleaned. Next, somewhere around the compressor (the big bulky thing in the bottom of the freezer) should be a fan blowing on the coil - make sure it is running. That MIGHT have been the buzzing noise you describe - dirt on the fan blades or the fan hitting something. Additionally, you can check the fan on the inside of the freezer - if it is stuck and/or not working, the air won't circulate properly, and you'll get pockets of different temperatures in your freezer.
Best of luck!
Hello psimmons304, Yes it does sound like a issue for the fan. What i would do is look up the model on google and type in replacement fan. you should be able to find it that way. If this doesn't answer your problem please post again.
Please post what you do and how you did it.
I look forward to your posts.
IS THE NOISE SOMETHING HITTING THE FAN BLADE?
CHECK THE FAN ASSEMBLY BY REMOVING THE BACK PANEL IN THE FREEZER COMPARTMENT.
NORMAL NOISES IN THE UNIT ARE A GURGLING NOISE OR THE SOUND OF RUNNING WATER OR HISSING. THIS IS DUE TO THE FREON BEING PUSHED THROUGH THE SYSTEM AS THE COMPRESSOR RUNS. POPPING OR SNAPPING CAN OCCUR WHEN THE COILS IN THE FREEZER MOVE DUE TO A CHANGE OF TEMPERATURE.
GAIN ACCESS TO THE FAN IN THE FREEZER(EASIER SAID THAN DONE) AND INSPECT THE FAN BLADE AND FAN SHROUD. HAVE REFRIGERATOR TURNED OFF AND MANUALLY ADVANCE FAN BLADE. WATCH FOR SLIGHT CONTACT BETWEEN THE FAN BLADE AND OTHER OBJECTS NEAR IT-ELECTRICAL WIRING, FAN SHROUD, ICE CYCLE,ETC. ADJUST FAN BLADE OR OBJECT TO INCREASE CLEARANCE.
Unplug your unit and check the fan blade by manually rotating it with your finger, check if the blade is not touching the fan blade frame. Check if the screws are not loose, align the fan blade and re tight the fan blade screws.
Hi could i get an exact model number and what are the temps on both sides?
PSS25SGMD
Freezer temp: 19F
Fridge temp: 47F
