Dear flog1,
ngfam1 here for you!
I am happy to be of assistance!

Sounds like the belt is broken, which is good and inexpensive to repair. OR worse the transmission is shot!
Is there any oil on the floor coming out under the washer?
This is only one sign that means transmission.
Do not fix or replace a transmission on a old washer $$$$$.

Here is a good service that I recommend to my customers,
in our 65 year old appliance business!

Good luck!
You will be fine now!

I have a kenmore 80 series washer that goes thru all the cycles except that it doesn't drain after rinsing and this is my serial and model number if you need it: mod20852990 ser4549516

does it drain after the wash cycle before therinse cycle? if not there are usually 2 belt on the bottom of the washer, one is for the aggitator the other for the water pump. check to see if the belt is still attached and also take the drain hose down to floor level to see if the water gravity feeds out, if it does not pour out then your pump would likely be clogged from lint.

Cycle switch keeps tripping

Switch actuator (usually on washer lid) is probably broken if you can complete the cycle by depressing switch manually.

Remove the front panel of the washer by using a putty knife to release the retaining clips, located in the seam between the front panel and the washer's top, about 2 inches in from each side. With an empty wash tub, remove the small hose on the left side of the outer tub and clean out the inside of the hose. Replace the hose. Test.

Top loading washer that won't aggitate, or rinse.

without knowing more details, and considering it's age , my guess is that you have a disconnection (or a loose wire) to the solenoids under the tub. these solenoids activate the clutch system that pulls it into agitate and spin modes. it might be the solenoids, but rarely do both go out at the same time. it might be the timer contacts or connections behind the control panel. or, it might be the timer its self.
try unplugging the unit and check all the connections.
hope this helps jay

if its aggitating properly it is likely the transmission and i would not reccommend reapair for that

Washer fills with water, starts it's cycle, goes through aggitate cycle, then stops timer continues a short time after to next cycle then stops, timer has been replaced and still doing the same thing

when it stops it wants to drain but your lid switch is not completing the curcit to the motor thats where i would go.you can jump it but only to test .because people can get hurt if not in use.tom
