Can't set printing preferences to "print in black and white"

When I click on print, the printing panel appears as usual and I click on "preferences" BUT: I cannot get the "print in black and white" check box to respond at all. It seems that the color cartridge is printing all my documents and some in black and white. There is plenty of ink (45%) in the black ink cartridge and only about 15% in the color cartridge This has just occurred. Can you help me?

Apparently, when grayscale printing is selected, some color ink is still used which is why you are getting a pinkish gray color instead of just gray. Here are instructions for solely using the black ink tank.

Print using pigment black ink only (Windows)
Instructions to print using only the pigment black ink tank only. Occasionally you may need to print using black ink only. Using grayscale alone does not provide this option and the color inks will still be used. By following this procedure you may print using only the pigment black ink tank.

Note: Some color ink will still be used for print head maintenance.

Note: Image quality may be sacrificed when printing photographs.

Open the Properties / Preferences window for the printer.

For Windows 7
Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Devices and Printers .'
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.

For Windows Vista
Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'. Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, Click 'Printers' directly from the 'Control Panel'.
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.

For Windows XP Home Edition
Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and Faxes.'
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.

For Windows XP Professional Edition
Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Printers and Faxes.'
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.

For Windows 2000/ Me/98 (if applicable)
Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.

Click on the Main tab.

Select 'Plain Paper' as the Media Type. If any other paper type is selected, color ink will be used to create black.

I have a pinnacle Pro 901. How do I print in black & white only?

Hello, try this: Start Menu, > Printers and Faxes> then right-click on your printer. Move the pointer down to 'Printing Preferences' and click the 'Advanced' tab. There you will (should!) see 'print in greyscale' . Select this then click 'Apply' then 'OK' at the bottom of the page.

How do I program the printer to only print in blck/white

Any default (or normally used) settings, can be made by changing the Printing Preferences for that specific printer.

1) Find the printer...ex: [Start]--> [Settings]--> [Printers and Faxes]...then [right-click] on the printer name/icon.

2) The pop-up menu that appears should list an option to select called, "Printing Preferences".

3) Under the [Paper/Quality] TAB, you can select "Black and White" (instead of the normally default, "Color").

4) Make sure to click OK, and that printer should (by default/ normal) print in B/W now.
--- you can change this to "Color" in Print Setup...but it is temporary for that printing job, and should revert to it's default state, afterwards.---
-Printing Preferences- is where any changes you make will become the Normally used setup.
.Hope this helps

Hello,

Just go to "Control Panel" double click "Printers" and right-clicking your printer model to show "Printing Preferences..." and select "Printing Preferences..."

On the "Main" tab of "Printing Preferences" window, uncheck the "Grayscale Printing" radio button.

Hope it helps.

In the printing preferences you need to select Black and white.

1. open the document you want to print
2. click file
3. click print
4. select printer from list, then click on preferences
5. look around the pages.

In Color tab I found a print in Grayscale - this setting will print the document in black and white colors, the pages may be diffrent on diffrent printers. look for black and white setting or Grayscale.

picture: printing preferences, color page on a hp printer, select grayscale with black cartridge only.

Can't print in color

Hi there!

Problem with your print settings.

Go to Control Panel > Printers and FAxes > Right Click on your printer and click Printing Preferences

Depending on your model, the preference page would show a drop down control or simply an option that says something like :

Print in : Black & White /Grayscale
or most models would say:

COLOR: [ ]BLACK [ x] COLOR

Now, set it to colored.

Hope this gives you an idea!
