Question about Computers & Internet

Each time I click Acrobat Reader 5.0, I get a message "There is a problem with Adobe Reader. Please exit and try again". As soon as I exit, the system works. I am using Windows Vista SP1.

I don't believe that Acrobat Reader 5 is compatible with Windows Vista. You really should update to the newest version, which is 9.

There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try againe.(1014:1014)


Chenge the PDF handler

Open Adobe reader > Go Edit > Perferances > General > At to bottom you will find Change PDF hadler > a screen with a drop menu will apper >Chose same version you have "incase this is the only adobe installation your version will be the only one"

Click yes and a windows installer will start after its finished just click done a restart adobe reader
Then try to open any PDF from browser

When I try to download a PDF this message appears There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/reader. If it is running, exit and try again. (1041:1014)


Sounds like there is some corruption either in the file you are trying to load, or in the adobe reader application. Just click here and scroll down the page and click to download the new free reader. should solve your problem.

If updating the reader does not work, then I would suspect the pdf file you are trying to load is corrupt.

Hi Kate1958. I found this for you. Do one or more of the following solutions:
Solution 1: Remove all versions of Acrobat or Reader, and then reinstall one version.
If multiple versions of Acrobat or Reader are installed on the system, remove all versions and then install only one version. See the documentation included with Windows for information about removing programs.
Note: If you need to have multiple versions of an Acrobat product installed, remove all versions and then reinstall them starting with the earliest, installing the latest version last.
Solution 2: Start Acrobat or Reader, and then open the PDF file in the web browser.
If an error occurs when you try to start Acrobat or Reader, refer to Related Documents below, or search the Adobe Support Knowledgebase:
-- If you use Acrobat, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrobat.html .
-- If you use Reader, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html .
Solution 3: Make sure that the External Window Handler file (ewh32.api) is in the Plug-ins folder.
If this file is missing, reinstall Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
The default location of the Plug-ins folder is:
-- For Acrobat: Program FilesAdobeAcrobat [version]Acrobat
-- For Reader: Program FilesAdobeAcrobat [version]Reader
Solution 4: Disable Web Browser Integration.
Disable Web Browser Integration so that PDF files open directly in Acrobat or Reader instead of in the web browser.
To disable Web Browser Integration in Acrobat 6.0.x -7.0.x or Reader 6.0.x -7.0.x:
1. Open Acrobat or Reader.
2. Choose Edit > Preferences > Internet.
3. Deselect Display PDF in Browser.
4. Click OK.
To disable Web Browser Integration in Acrobat 5.x or Acrobat Reader 5.x:
1. Open Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
2. Choose Edit > Preferences > General.
3. Click Options in the list in the Preferences dialog box.
4. Deselect Display PDF in Browser.
5. Click OK.
To disable Web Browser Integration in Acrobat 4.x or Acrobat Reader 4.x:
1. Open Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
2. Choose File > Preferences > General.
3. Deselect Web Browser Integration in the General Preferences dialog box.
4. Click OK.

ACROBAT 9.1 WILL NOT INSTALL


“Error 1402: Could not open key [key name] .”
Your best bet here is to do a complete uninstall of all previous versions of reader before you try installation again.

  1. Choose Start > Control Panel (Windows XP), or Start > Settings > Control Panel (Windows 2000).
  2. Double-click Add Or Remove Programs.
  3. Select Adobe Acrobat [version] and click Remove.
  4. When prompted, confirm that you want to remove Reader.
  5. Repeat the above procedure for all installed versions of Reader.
  6. Restart the computer, and then reinstall Adobe Reader.

Cannot use reader 8.0,cannot remove it or install 9.0


oddly enough, you may find that updating the version 8.0 you have to 8.x will then allow you to remove it (or it will work correctly) can you open the reader manually in the programs list? if so open it, then go to help and check for updates. apply the updates. If they work you should be in good shape.

Adobe acrobat v7 can't open file


Do this:
1. Exit Acrobat.
2. Choose Start > Run, and type: %APPDATA%\Adobe\Acrobat\ into the Open text box. Click OK.
3. Right-click either the 6.0 or 7.0 folder, and choose Delete.
4. Start Acrobat and attempt to print.
Note:Acrobat preference files contain application settings such as toolbar arrangements. When you restart Acrobat, new preferences are created automatically based on application defaults. Deleting preference files will not result in the loss of saved documents.

Or, if u have having Quarkexpress in your machine update the version. Quarkexpress also creates PDF files, maybe this is where it was created from
