Question about Kenmore 62872 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

My dryer heats, but doesn't tumble.

How do I check the belt? I took the back of the machine off, but didn't see the mechanics of where the belt would be. It's older, model # 66801692, type #180-00
Have you any ideas?

Thank you! Carol

Well it could be the belt but it could also be a loose motor, idler pulley or spring.

here is what it should look like bottom right picture on this one

and this will help you get to where you gotta get to

Dryer not tumbling

Look up the model, google or the like and see if u can find some schematics. Its does seem likely to be the belt but u may find a better way to crack it open.

I have a Neptune dryer. On big loads, such as towels it doesn't tumble it just hums, although it does heat. What could this be?

they are turned by a large belt that encompasses the entire drum... it could be getting loose, the entire machine has to come apart to find and fix the problem... there is also a spring connected to the motor for tension on the belt this could be the problem as well.

MY Roper Dryer model # RED4340SQ1,Will Tumble but not Dry Clothes

For this job, all your work is going to be behind the machine. Tools you'll need is: 1/4 nut driver or drill with 1/4 adapter and a multimeter with ability to check continuity. With the machine unplugged, remove the back cover of the dryer. Once done, the heating element will be located on the right hand side with two fuses on the housing of the element. Test the element and each fuse seperatly by removing the wires and checking for continuity on each component. All parts should show continuity, so if one doesn't its bad and needs to be replaced

My dryer heats up but does not tumble. I replaced

Sounds like worn tub back bearing.
take the belt off and spin the tub by hand to see if it is binding.
check that the pulley isnt loose on the tub back and also the motor pulley, feel if the motor spins free.
Finally check the tub itself for objects poking through or lodged in the outer tank.
Good luck

Kenmore dryer 75731 won't tumble. It heats fine.

The machhine is belt driven check the belt first.

If the motor is must be tested energizing it.

In all cases test the lid switch to ensure it is not opening contact when machine starts tumbling.

The wiring harness to motor must be tested.

If there is no other fault elsewhere, replace the timer board.

Start from the belt, if the machine is heating, then it is probably a broken belt.

Dryer turns on but won't heat up or tumble

Common faults -
1 The heating elements can fail (meaning open circuit)
2 There are cut-outs (T.O.C's) that might need resetting
3 The thermostats (stats) can trip out or burn out (meaning opencircuit)
4 Moderntumble dryers also have sensors and pcb's (Printed circuitboards) thesehave programs that can fail and circuitry although most should produce an errorcode showing you were the fault is.
5 Faultyconnections and burned wires may also be the fault.

Heats but won't tumble

There probably is a belt. Usually not too hard to replace if you have some basic screwdriver and mechanical aptitude. I've replaced several over the years and I aint no Maytag repairmen. Call your local parts house with the make and model and pick up a new one. Even if it's not your model you can probably find a utube video that will help make sense of it. Be sure to unplug the unit before working on it.
