Check to see if the computer even has a serial port, most today dont have them and use USB instead. if this is the case, contact the receiver company to see if the have a usb version of the connection cable and software and download it and the manual for it. check to see if it needs a special cable as well while on the site. it might not need a special cable but it disent hurt to make sure.

Over a period of time I too had purchased a lot of devices from KVMSwitchTech.com. I must say the prices are very low and they do provide 1year warranty. KVMSwitchTech's DVI Extenders are very easy to use and install http://www.kvmswitchtech.com/cat5-dvi-extender-c11632.htm

How to install a network for a number of PC's?

This answer reffers to a windows based machines. First, a router is needed. Second, each PC must have a network connection. Use cables is order to connect between the computers if they are located close to one another. Then run network cables to the router, set Network Settings / TCP/IP settings to 'acquire an IP address automatically' . This will set up the network allowing you to transfer files and play network based games.

I have a broadband DSL modem/router in my home office. I also have 2 CAT5e ports there. I want to feed the Internet signal from the router (one of the ports on the back) through a CAT5e point up to my...

Hi Joe,

How are you connecting to the port in the back of your router? if you have crimped a male plug on to some UTP cable then this may be the problem. UTP cable has a solid condutor and needs a different male crimp plug than UTP patch cable, which has stranded conductors.

I suggest you connect the UTP cable between the office and the loft to an RJ45 wall or surface socket in the office, use a terminating tool designed for the make and type of outlet you use, i.e. if using an ADC socket use the ADC termination tool. The sockets are designed for solid cable and have a colour code for you to follow. Then use a factory terminated patch cord between this socket and the router port.

I assume you have terminated the cable from the office onto one of the patch panel ports and want to use a patch cord to patch from this incoming socket to the sockets that are terminated onto the cables going to your other rooms. If you have access to a laptop connect this directly into the router port and ensure you have an internet connection, then plug the patch cord connecting the loft port into the router and take the laptop into the loft and ensure you have a connection at the incoming port on the patch panel. If you get the connnection there then use a factory patch cord to patch to a room you would like a connection in and then take the laptop to that outlet and ensure you have a connection.

If you want to run outlets in multiple rooms without re-patching every time then you will need to have an active switch in your loft and connect the port from the office to this and then patch out of the switch ports to the various room outlets.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Jason

Problem with serial connection with AMD motherboard

Software that accesses serial ports usually allow you to specify WHICH port you want to connect via.

Your new board should have COM1 and possibly COM2... but perhaps your old setup was running from COM3?

Connect the Casio to COM1, and check the software you are using... set that to "look" at COM1 also. That should work!

How to use cross cable and straight cables in network

ok, i think what you mean is this.  Crossover cable is for connecting 2 computers together without the need for a router.  also called pc-to-pc.  Straight cables need the use of a router or hub to connect 2 computers together.  Hope this helps, if not let me know more info.

Network

Well if you are asking how it should be crimped, PC to PC regularly, if it is not a smart port LAN then you have to use a cross-over cat 5 cable. but it won't really matter if you have smart ports. for the PC to switch connection, same principle applies, but if they have smart ports, that the type of LAN cables should not matter.

Hope this helps.

First off thanks for choosing fixya.com
Since not all cables are made the same way it would be best to check the manual, or online documentation for your camera. The manufacturer probably makes a cable specifically for that camera. If the camera has a removable card such as SD or MMC you can purchase a generic card reader for your computer and simple transfer data using the card reader, In some cases this is cheaper due to the high cost of some USB/Firewire cables. Only use cables recommended by the manufacturer. This will not only ensure your warranty stays in tact but also makes sure you do not damage your camera or computer by using a wrong cable.

Hope this helps you.

Transfering data from one computer to another

I think there is no way to do that. You CAN do it, however, with a crossover cable. It looks the same as a regular cable, but it's not. With the crossover cable, just connect the two computers and give 'em two IP's in the same network. Then enable file sharing and it should work. Sorry, I can't go into much detail because I haven't done that in a looong time, but I think that's about it. Hope it helps.
