I have recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 (bought a completely new computer) and am having problems installing the drivers for my Benq 5250C flatbed scanner. The software installs from CD ok, but when I plug in the scanner's USB cable it shows a device called FlatbedScanner22 and says that windows cannot find or is unable to install the driver files and no driver files are installed. I have tried downloading driver files from the internet again, tried asking windows to search the internet . . . still can't seem to find the right driver files or get the computer to accept the scanner. When I double-click on the scanner software, it says the scanner can't be found and shows and error "ffff;0061". HELP!

You need to completely uninstall the drivers/software that you have already installed.

To do this:

Start --> Run --> Type: 'appwiz.cpl' without the quotes.

Inside of the Add/Remove Control Panel, scroll down and search for anything that has the name of the company/software/scanner in it and REMOVE IT!!

After removing the software and drivers you need to go to the manufactures website (like you've already done) and just make sure you have the most updated software/drivers (FOR windows 7!)

If you don't remove the software and drivers first, it will cause complications...which I assume is what you've run into. Good luck!

Win7 will need a driver from the MS website for your scannner...for that u need to register with MS and get the driver
do an update for Wn7 after regiter with MS

If the game didn't work for Windows 7, you can use a virtual computer and install in it Windows XP, and then enjoy the game.

To create virtual computer, you can use softwares like VMWare Workstation. Then you need to use a Windows XP CD or image (download it) to install it to the virtual computer. Now go enjoy the game.

Having Trouble Booting To Your Windows Upgrade Disc?

...Upgrade discs aren't bootable discs. To repair a windows installation, you must use either a system repair disc or, better yet, a windows installation disc (genuine Retail/OEM discs are pretty much your only option to completely reinstall your windows operating system, unless you own a previous full installation disc of a previously released Windows version (such as XP or Vista), in which case you could install that windows operating system and then upgrade to a newer windows OS like windows 7. however if you ever need to reinstall windows 7, you would either need to reinstall the older windows OS, then upgrade to the newer one.

If that isn't clear, I'll sum it up....

Let's say you bought a computer, that computer had windows xp home edition. Maybe you wanted to upgrade from Windows XP/Windows Vista or Windows 7?
Well in order to switch from Windows XP/Vista to Windows 7, (or even from Windows 7 home premium- to windows7 Pro or Ultimate), then you must either:
A) Buy an upgrade disc and upgrade to the newer desired version.
B) Or, Buy a Retail Copy of the version you want to install. (keep in mind that a retail Windows 7 disc can be used to perform an upgrade rather than to competely wipe the hard disc and perform a clean install (delete partitions, reformat, and perform a new windows installation), if you so choose.

The bottom line is, you cannot Install a fresh clean copy of windows using an upgrade disc. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and Retail Windows Operation System Installation Setup Discs are "Bootable Discs". Windows Upgrade Discs are NOT bootable. (unless one where to "modify that particular disc, which is not legal).

BenQ apparently never updated drivers for this hardware to work un a Windows 7 environment. I do not have this scanner myself, but I did come accross a site that indicated many were having luck with a driver found there. I was unable to test it as I lack the hardware. I do not know it it will work for you or not, but I offer the info for you to investigate to see if you can get it to work in Windows 7. The site is: http://www.bioticaindia.com/benq-s2w-4300u.html

Lastly, if your version of Windows 7 is "Pro" or "Ultimate", it supports "Windows Virtual PC." Windows Virtual PC is a fully *free*, fully functional licensed copy of Windows XP Pro direct from Microsoft that "runs" in Windows 7. You can install applications and hardware in the Vitual PC just as if it were another computer. Follow the Virtual PC link above to learn more about it. You may be able to breathe new life into your BenQ scanner running it in the Virtual PC, if the driver mentioned in the first paragraph doesn't work for you.

Hello, this is how I dual boot my laptop with windows xp and windows 7

1. Backup all you important files, use an external hard-disk if possible
2. Make sure you have two drives or partitions: usually drive C and D
3. Insert your xp cd, do a quick format of drive C and install
4. Boot into windows xp and format format drive D if necessary
5. Insert your windows 7 DVD and follow the prompts. When it asks you to upgrade or new install, choose new installation
6. When you are asked to choose a location choose drive D
7. Complete your windows 7 installation
8. Thats it, you can now install drivers and programs

When installation is complete you will see both os options: windows 7 and previous version of windows (i.e xp)

I have done this numerous times without the need for any other step or software. The only rule is to is to install xp first, then windows 7.

I would suggest you reinstall using Windows XP because based on your pc specs, your computer will run faster on XP. You may also try Windows 7 because it doesn't require you to install specific drivers. It comes automatically installed when you install the OS.

If this is a problem with Windows 7 , I'm afraid there are no drivers running under Windows Seven for this unit.
If you have the W XP install disc , you could install a virtual version of W XP on your HDD ( http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/desktop_downloads/vmware_player/3_0 )
You could also partition your HDD ( http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html ) and install W XP on the new one .

Your Driver might be incompatible or incorrect driver. Check carefully, if you install it incorrectly, your PC could be at risk.

Since Windows 7 is a new operating System. Most Manufactures don't have the drivers of it. Talk to your Computer Adminstrator or contact one.

Windows 7 has recently released, so it's not recommend to upgrade it. You can rollback to Vista or XP with the System Restore if you wish.

You can also contact or email Microsoft for more info.
