Modern batteries do talk to the laptops and provide information on health. Ordinarily, this message would mean that your battery is on its way out. If however, it holds its charge then fine, but at some stage you may find that you only get a few minutes use even on a full charge and you will need to find a replacement.
Try connecting a standard PC monitor to the laptop via the VGA port. Do you still get the same problems on the external screen? If so, there is a motherboard fault relating to the Video output. If your laptop uses the NVidia chipset, this is probably the fault as some older laptops did suffer from this. If you dont get the fault then its probably one of these: 1) Screen issue 2) The Screen cable that allows the video data to go from the motherboard to the screen
the short cable running from the power button to the main board has
probably snapped where it passes over the RH hinge. remove the screen
surround to gain access to the power on switch area and check. it would
seem to be a common fault with the packard bell
If you are using Vista/Windows 7 Right click anywhere on your display and you should get an option under view to change the size of your icons or you could change the display ratio/screen resolution which will automatically adjust icon size the higher the display setting the smaller the icon.
