Question about Epson Stylus C84 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

No ink on page

No trouble lights, cartridges have ink quantity , goes through the sounds and motions but does not print anything. Tried the nozzle and head cleaning functions several times but - nothing. I have not used the printer for a few months, however the black cartridge is brand new and even a text test page won't print. I have the same problem as the ones listed on the previous page. First it would only print yellow. I thought maybe the cartridges were died up so I spent $57.49 for a whole set opf new Epson cartridges. It strill printed only yellow and then quit printing anything. With this many complaints you've had, you should find a solution. I cannot afford another printer. I have taken all the steps you suggested.

The only way to make this printer work again is a pump and cap assembly replacement. The Dura Brite inks are waterproof. As such, they dry in the tube forming crystals. As far as I have been able to determine, these crystals perforate the tube causing a loss of suction from the pump assembly.

Furthermore, a large accumulation of ink builds up at the end of the waste ink tube in the waste ink pads. The printer mechanism must be removed from the base, one of the pads must be removed, then you have to remove the ***** of ink from the end of waste ink tube. After that is done a small amount of water should be flushed through the tube to clean it. Make sure you replace the pad before you flush or you will have ink all over the place.

I have seen the tube fall off as the previous post noted. Sometimes but not always, putting that tube in place will solve the problem too. However in most instances it does not because the tube has split.

A little hint; do this repair in an area where you won't mind getting ink around. Also wear some latex gloves to keep ink off your fingers.

A technique to improve print quality is to try and clean the cartridge nozzles. You may clean the cartridge by following the steps given below:
1. Go to the "Lexmark solution center." This can be done by clicking on "Start," go to "Programs" and Lexmark printer group. Click on the "Lexmark Solution center." Next click on the "Maintenance" Tab.
2. Select "Clean and Fix Horizontal streaks." Click on "Print". This will produce a printed page.
The colors that you should see here are black, yellow, magenta (a reddish purple) and cyan (a dark sky blue). You should notice the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. These diagonal lines should be solid from left to right with no gaps.
If there are gaps in the lines or the print diminishes across the page, you should run the "Clean Print Nozzle" page a couple more times to try and clear it up. If you still have gaps at the top and bottom, you should "wick" the cartridges by following the steps given below:
1. Please open the "Solution center" again and go to the "Maintenance" Tab.
2. Select "Install color/black cartridge" and remove the cartridge or cartridges from the printer.
3. Get a damp paper towel.
4. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds.
5. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean.
6. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing.
7. Snap the cartridges back into the printer.
8. On your computer, select "Old Cartridge install."
9. Repeat the "Clean Nozzle Page" one more time. If this fails to address the problem the entire procedure may need repeating.

Good Luck!!!!

My MP160 goes through the motions of printing, but no ink actually comes out on the page. Both ink cartridges are new and I have checked and rechecked that they were put in correctly?

This sounds like you are trying to use either aftermarket or refilled cartridges. To clear the ink nozzles you will have to invest in new OEM cartridges, run the cleaning procedure at least 3x to clear the nozzles, align the printhead. This should take care of the problem.
I would remove the OEM cartridges, retape the ink outlet and breather hold at the top and store them for the next time you need to unclog the nozzles. Try LDProducts.com for ink cartridges.
As for the cartridges that you had the problem with I would take them back to the vendor for credit or an exchange.
Aftermarket and refill ink often do not meet manufacturer specifications.

My ink cartridges are reading almost full and it says printing started and goes through the motions of printing my page...altho the page turns out blank. What do i do?

Get a swab and try cleaning the copper contacts at the base of the ink carriage. Then clean the base of the ink itself. Even a full cartridge can dry out around the nozzles if you go too long between print jobs.

Have you tried a cleaning cycle? If not, try one (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select head clean). Now run a nozzle check (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select nozzle check). Is there any sign of ink on the paper. Try up to three cleaning cycles. If ink is now flowing, but not yet perfectly, don't carry out any more cleaning cycles. Just leave the printer for 24 hours (to allow any air in the print head to disperse). Then repeat the cleaning cycle/wait process. It may take a while to restore a perfect nozzle check print.

If you have already done lots of head cleans with no result, are you sure you have good ink cartridges properly installed? The printer determines the amount of ink left in the cartridge by counting the number of ink "shots" when printing, head cleaning etc. This information is stored in the "chip" on the cartridge. Thus, it is not an actual measurement of the ink left, but an estimate calculated by subtracting the total shots from the original full ink quantity. This estimate can sometimes be grossly in error, usually due to a cartridge replacement not being carried out correctly. To eliminate this possibility, buy a new set of compatible cartridges on E-Bay - they're very cheap. You can always re-use the old ones later if it turns out they DO have ink in them.

If none of the above works, then you may have blocked print head nozzles. You can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves out of its parking position, pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head by hand fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Do not turn the printer on at any stage in this process. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then turn the printer on and try a head clean/nozzle check again. If you get any black ink on the nozzle check, then there is hope! Repeat the process until you get a full black nozzle check. If nothing, repeat the process once more.

If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results.

No ink on page

Clean the contact in the housing area and on the ink cartriage. If that does not work buy a new cartriage. The ink probably dried up in the nozzles. You can place the ink cartriage on a wet paper towel water or alcohal and press the cartriage into the towel. If you see no ing replace.

I have an MP460 printer. Suddenly it won't print. When I try to print a document from Word, the printer acts like it's printing--goes through the motions, spits out a page, but nothing is on that page,...

  1. Open the front cover of the printer and remove both cartridges.
  2. Moisten a clean, lint-free cloth with water and gently wipe the gold nozzle area.

    Warning!
Wipe the nozzles of the color cartridge in one direction so the colors do not mix.
  3. To dissolve dried ink, hold the damp cloth against the nozzles for about three seconds. Gently blot and wipe dry.
  4. Moisten another section of clean, lint-free cloth and gently wipe the gold contact area.

    Warning!
Do not wipe the nozzles and contacts with the same section of cloth.
  5. To dissolve dried ink, hold the damp cloth against the nozzles for about three seconds. Gently blot and wipe dry. Let the gold-colored areas dry before you reinsert the cartridge into the printer.
  6. Reinsert the cartridge and repeat the nozzles test.
