Document feeder does not work

Our office bought a Cannon NP6050 along with other office furniture. The copier copies but the document feeder will not work, is this a simple fix or do we need to call a repairman.

You'll have to clarify "does not work". What does that mean? Does anything turn, pick-up rollers for example. Will it feed paper into the document feeder at all? Is there a flashing arrow on the document tray when the copier is turned on? Does the green arrow come on when you put a document on the original tray? Is the document feeder plugged in, in back of the copier? If completely dead there are breakers on the DF controller that could be reset, but there's not enough information here to even guess.

Cleaned some sensors under the feeder, if possible, clean it with blower to solve the problem.

Yep, only when you use the document feeder? If so, lift the document feeder lid, get a clean lint-free cloth and some glass cleaner. Apply some of the cleaner to the cloth then, clean the small of the two glass areas. That is the only section that reads documents fed through the document feeder! Run a blank sheet of paper through the document feeder first before cleaning and make a copy. Take the copy and, if there is a line (or lines)on the copy, place it on the larger document glass face up.Follow the line to the smaller glass. The dot of debris will usually be there. If you don't see anything wrong, clean the glass anyway. Run another blank sheet through the document feeder. Check that copy. If the lines are gone...Viola! you have solved the problem. It it has not and you've cleaned it more than once, the debris is on the mirrors under the glass and a technician will need to come out, remove the glass and carefully clean the optics/mirrors.
Good Luck.

Disconnecting the Xerox c2424 Document Scanner

The Xerox c2424 Document Scanner has a very high rate of failure. After very limited use it can generate an error code of 39,012.40 indicating that the document feeder is damaged. Xerox's answer to 99% of the document scanner issues is to replace the unit. But while restarting or cleaning can possibly resolve this issue, it is also possible to just disconnect the scanner and use it independently of the document feeder.

Xerox documentation however, does not instruct the user how to do this and tech support won't walk you though it. (So, courtesy of Pastor Ray of Indiana) Listed here are the steps to operating the scanner without the document feeder:

(1) Perform a standard shutdown on the printer.
(2) Disconnect the Document Feeder from the printer IN THE REAR OF THE PRINTER. You still need the side connector hooked up, the one by the power-on switch, power plug, USB port and all the other goodies.
(3) Power up the printer.
(4) It should work. However...
If for some reason the printer won't copy, then just do what I did in my experimentation:
(1) Perform a standard shutdown on the printer.
(2) Disconnect the Document Feeder from the printer in the rear of the printer.
(3) Physically remove the Document Feeder, leaving the copy platen visible.
(4) Power up the printer.
At this point you should be able to copy stuff.
(5) Physically reattach the Document Feeder, but DON'T reconnect it!
You should still be able to copy, scan, etc.

3055 glass

There is no need to change the mode. When the document is loaded on the document feeder, the screen displays "DOCUMENT LOADED" and shall copy or scan this document. To copy or scan from glass, DO NOT LOAD ANY DOCUMENT IN THE FEEDER. The printer will automatically copy / scan from glass.

I get a "close the feeder door" message each time I try to print or copy. And I do not know what to do.

Chances are the sensor is broken so the printer doesn't know that the feeder is closed. You can try calling 1-800-OK-CANON for support but, unfortunately, it often costs more to fix a printer than it does to buy a new one.

There is a black dotted line whenever I make copies on the cannon imagerunner 400s

It's either a speck on the scanner glass for the document feeder, or a smear of toner on one of the rollers. Check the skinny band of glass inside the document feeder for specks and clean it with a lint-free soft cloth and a little rubbing alcohol or a very little bit of water.

Check that the chord for the doc feed hasnt come out and that when you put document in the feeder the light comes on and it initialises the tray lift to the ready position it sounds as if the feeder connection is faulty and it is looking for document on the glass face to copy .. it doesnt see the document so it cant work the size out.

Copies run through feeder distorted

Document feeder Paper feed rollers should be cleaned with alcohol, blow out the document feed area with compressed air (computer duster), check feeder for bits of paper, post it notes, and signature flags. Clean glass, check for sticky areas on the glass.

Hope this is of some help.

NP6050 false paper jam at doc feeder

When you put documents in the feeder and you push start do you see 2 black arms swing out to count the number of orignals? If yes, dose the doc tray begin to go down and then jams? If yes, you can try something.... OK, turn the copier off and move the 2 paper guides of the doc tray toward the middle. You need a #2 philip's head screw driver. Remove the 2 silver screws that will be sunk in a bit on the top of the doc tray. Once you remove the screws, remove the top part of the doc tray and you will have one connector toward the front. Unplug it and replug it back in and see if that works, if so return the 2 screws and you should be OK.
