Some antivirus suites have been known to actually cause crashes in Windows 7 with certain system configurations. If removing your antivirus solves your problem, you have found your culprit. You can switch to microsoft security essentials if you need to. It's not the greatest thing ever but it does work.
depending on operating system you should be able to hit start then assesories then system tools then system restore and go back to a date that your camera worked then wait till it finishes and restarts and then try it. if not i would try to uninstall the device and let it reinstall the driver it has backed up.restart and good luck!
