    Good Day, howac506;

    Okay, no pic/has audio after 5 minutes, this is a very generic concern. Let me ask you some questions and make some suggestions so maybe we can solve this problem:

    1. What brand and model number is your TV? (small paper sticker on rear of TV)

    2. Does the picture do anything before it goes out? (turn a color or lines etc.)

    3. Does any front panel lights blink? (how many & which ones)

    4. Is your sound from the TV or stereo?

    5. Do you have cable/ sat box?

    Sorry, I was not helpful this day but give more information and I will help you as best as I can.

    Thanks, big IRISH. ps Too many TV's and types (dlp, lcd, rear projection), again, sorry.

Good Day, howac506;

The most common problem for your 1991 TV is the vertical out put IC (IC) part number 272p239040.

I hope this was helpful.
Good Luck again, big IRISH.

    LET ME KNOW IF THIS HELPFUL.

    Good Day, howac506;
    Like I stated it more than likely the vertical out put IC but here is a more detailed way to trouble shoot and repair of your TV:
    SHUTDOWN CAN BE CAUSED BY NO VERTICAL DEFLECTION. SINCE THE VERTICAL CIRCUIT IS POWERED BY THE SWITCHED POWER SUPPLY THE UNIT MUST BE TURNED ON TO TROUBLESHOOT THE CIRCUIT. THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY TEMPORARILY DISCONNECTING THE VERTICAL INPUT TO THE X-PROTECT CIRCUIT. ** TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE CRT'S YOU MUST UNPLUG THE CRT PCB'S. ** TO DEFEAT THE X-PROTECT CIRCUIT, UNSOLDER D4A1 LOCATED OFF THE COLLECTOR OF Q4A1. IF THE UNIT POWERS ON AT THIS POINT, YOU HAVE CONFIRMED A VERTICAL FAILURE AS THE CAUSE FOR SHUTDOWN. ** D4A1 MUST BE REINSTALLED IN CIRCUIT TO PREVENT CRT DAMAGE. ** 2. WITH VERTICAL PROTECTION DEFEATED (D4A1 OUT OF CIRCUIT) WHEN THE UNIT POWERS R514 (PIN 11 OF THE FLYBACK) OPENS. CHECK PARALLEL CAP. C512 .33 UFD 400 V IF C512 IS GOOD REPLACE THE FLYBACK PART # 334P191020 ON THE MAIN PCB. 3. CHECK PIN 1 OF IC401 FOR 10.7VDC. IF LOW OR MISSING CHECK FOR SHORTED D4000 (PART #264P487030) LOCATED OFF PIN 1. (PCB-MAIN) 4. CHECK PIN 8 OF IC401 FOR 28.4VDC. IF MISSING CHECK FOR OPEN D520 AND R540 AT PIN 5 OF FLYBACK TRANSFORMER T503. (PCB-MAIN) D520 PART #264P102020 R540 (1.2 OHM 1/4 W) PART #103P398010 5. CHECK FOR DEFECTIVE IC401, PART #272P239040 ( PCB-MAIN) 6. CHECK R540 1.2 OHM 1/4 W OFF PIN 5 OF FLYBACK (PCB MAIN). 7. EXCESSIVE 130V SUPPLY. CHECK C911 47 UFD 100 V AND C914 47 UFD 50 V, IN THE IC900 CIRCUIT.
    Good Luck, big IRISH.

Try first unplugging power cable for thirty minutes, then plug back, this will drain power from TV completely and will reset it.

See if it works.

I have a Panasonic TH-58PE75U, that I purchased Nov. 2007. Yesterday it was working fine; however, I left the room and returned. The screen was completely dark (out), but the audio is working fine. I...

When you turn the plasma on do you get a solid indicator light on the front of the tv? You also get sound just fine, but a blank screen and no picture. I'm still looking for a definite answer, but I repaired a Hitachi 42edt41a that had the exact same problems. On that plasma there was an X-sustain board and a Y-sustian board that needed to be replaced. Hopefully someone else can give their assistance as well.

Screen goes blank, audio still works

I had this problem on my 42" Philips. Just got it yesterday and worked fine on the tv stand. As soon as I mounted the TV to the wall via wall mount system, I had the exact same issue you did. Figured it out today.

The wall mount was putting pressure against the center of the back of the tv (tv set had a slightly rounded back plate, and the mount was a flat plate). As soon as I put spacers (part of the wall mount hardware set) between the wall mount braket and the tv so there was no contact except at the mounting holes, the tv worked fine.

My theory is the pressure pushed the tv back plate against some board components which caused them to overheat (no air flow); or put pressure on internal connectors. I dont know.

Hope this helps, may not apply to your situation.

Sony DVP-NS315 cant play only Video Disc

If you are using just a "yellow" ended cable for the video, maybe your custom settings are set to use "component"? I have been using this same dvd player for a while with the component video out and it works fine. I hope this helps.
