Acer 5720 wireless connection

Hi,
I keep having connection problems with my acer at home. I have the AtherosAR5007EG and when I connection to a WLAN at home it only keeps me connected for 2 minutes and then disconnects itself. I seldom get the chance to stay connected for longer than 2 minutes. I have a feeling it is something to do with the verizon FIOS connection we have or the Atheros not responding well to our router. Please help...maybe I just need an update? Please please help me...
Thanks - Teejay

Miss_isis,

try the following : ( for testing)

disable the security and see if u can stay online longer
if u can , the passpharse or keypairs are wrong ( or in some cases the router or WNIC does not support key rotations (cisco)
or the key might be messed up..

Disable mac filtering .. ( for testing)

upgrade the router firmware ( be sure to backup the old firmware first and document your settings because upgrading firmware will set the router device back to the factory default)

3rd tip .. try and connect to an different wifi network and see if its the same ..

Problem on startup with laptop combining internal ethernet and WLAN as if there is only one network connection I am trying to fix my mother's Acer Aspire 3680. It has 1GB of RAM, running XP Home SP3. It...

Sounds like the problem may be related to the power management of the internal ethernet card.

You need to check these settings in the Acer ePower Management software (usually installed with the laptop).
E.g. If you the laptop is not charging then you will not be able to see or change any settings on the internal ethernet card.

If you do not have the Acer ePower Manager installed then you can download it here;

Notebook won't connect to network

1) Verify if Wi-Fi WLAN interface of your notebook is OK.
1a) Check whether HW switch is ON and the wireless system service is running.
1b) Switch on the WLAN Access Point (router) SSID broadcasting.
1c) Scan WLAN networks by the notebook. Can you see your home WLAN? If not, there is HW or SW problem in your wireless adapter probably. If WLAN is visible, continue by next steps.

2) Remove all WLAN security on both sides (AP and notebook): Authentication = none/open, encrytption = none.
3) Activate DHCP server in the router and set the dynamic IP assigning on WLAN notebook interface.
4) Select your home WLAN SSID in the list and try to connect.
5) Wait and check status. Is WLAN connected? Does obtain the notebook an IP address?
6) In success case set the WLAN security.

ACER 5720 WIRELESS CONNECTION PROBLEMS

Sounds like a bad router or antenna. Try replacing the antenna or checking the connection of the antenna on the router. Have your ISP replace the router and the problem should go away.
