Question about Cameras

Not downloading When I hooked my PowerShot S400 (Canon) to my computer, my Zoom Browser is not responding. So I hooked it up to my laptop, and it says that my camera is busy and my camera's green light blinks rapidly and turns off.. What should I do?

Remove the batter.
reconnect to your computer after you have rebooted your computer.
remember to not disconnect the camera until you click on the remove hardware icon and have determined that it is ok to safely remove the device. otherwise you can corrupt your device.

if things do not return to normal after you have done a complete reset, you need service from a qualified repair station.

good luck

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Good Morning, I have a Canon Powershot S230

Skip this kind of transfer, save time by buying and using a card reader/writer. This way it is not necessary to have the need for any software on the computer. You can transfer any files from the card to the computer, and you can write to the card as well, if necessary. I recommend never to write to the card until you have transferred all files from the card to the hard drive. That is because by writing to the card, you may delete files.

Camera direct to computer connections are notoriously problematic. (Lousy with bugs etc.) I avoid the problem entirely by using a card reader ($15-20) combined with Picasa3 (free software from Google). Remove card from camera and insert into card reader, connect to computer via USB and download images with Picasa3. Works great and is relatively cheap.

Canon PowerShot A40

If you have a Vista, it is not compatible. It will not download the Zoom browser. I had to purchase a Memory card reader/writer to download pics on my laptop from my camera and by passing the printer.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:
