Question about Palm Zire 31 Handheld

Installed software on new laptop & can't hotsync

I just got a new laptop with Windows Vista. I just successfully installed my Zire31 software and tried to do a HotSync so that the information on my palm could be copied to the computer. When I connect it via the USB cable it says "HotSync problem. The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again." I have no problems syncing on my old computer, which runs XP, but I'm wondering if there's an issue b/c I now have Vista? Please help me sync my palm! Thx :)

I just got the computer and didn't know I needed to do any of that. Do I just go on the Vista site and look for updates and service packs?? Is there something specific I should look for? I got the computer built by Dell and thought everything I needed would be there and all would be smooth. I'm starting not to like Vista :(

Thanks -- I'll see if that works. I know my computer has some automatic update thing running, but I'll go to the site specifically and give it a try. I appreciate your help :)

Have you downloaded all of the updates and service packs for vista? Vista still has a lot of compatibility issues so it may be that you will have to wait for them to work it out.

Yes, just go to the windows website and have it check your system for any updates. It will check your system and see what updates you need. I'll be honest with you, vista can be a pain in the backside but it also can be great and I'm sure will be great once they work all the bugs out.

Download hotsync

Well, if your PC run Windows XP, install ActiveSync. Otherwise, if it runs Vista or 7, install Windows Mobile Device Center instead. To freely download any of these programs, please, visit this page.
Once the correct program is installed and running, the first time you connect your phone to your PC, you will be prompted to start a new partnership. You'll be able to select the items to be synchronized. E.g. if you want to sync your contacts, calendar and email messages, you should have Microsoft Outook running on your PC too. In order to sync your media files (pictures, music and video), Windows Media Player should be installed too.
Hope it works for you.
Anyway, please, let me know if I can assist you any further.
Regards,Carlos

I am using Windows 7 and want to Hotsync my 1000s of Memo Notes from My Palm Treo 650, I got the latest Palm Desktop and Hotsync Manager but My Computer cannot Hotsync or even detet my Treo 650....Pls...

Palm Desktop compatibility with Windows 7 and 64-bit editions Palm Desktop 6.2 was designed for 32-bit editions of Windows XP and Windows Vista. You may be able to use this software with other versions of Windows.
Windows 7: Many users have successfully installed and used Palm Desktop 6.2 with Windows 7. Palm has not done thorough testing with a range of third-party equipment running Windows 7, therefore Palm cannot guarantee compatibility.
64-bit editions of Windows: USB HotSync is not supported. Instead, synchronize through a Bluetooth wireless connection: set up Bluetooth HotSync.

Can not hot sync my unit with windows vista

Palm says that it is not possible, because the software that they have does not work with Vista. However, there is a fix to this! :) For these instructions, you will need the usb cord. If you need to do it via bluetooth, or infrared (IR) or want to read further instructions, visit this link:
http://forums.palm.com/t5/Windows-HotSync/Windows-7-and-Vista-hotsync-instructions-here/td-p/251755
First, you will want to download the Palm desktop 6.2 and hotsync manager here:
http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/32859_en.html
Then, you'll need to download the Pimlico hotsync software here:
http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/palmhotsyncsetup.exe
Install them both, and you're off!

I formatted my lg 50express laptop and install windows vista so i lost my audio driver. the driver i have is for windows vista and it is not compatible with vista

just try to install the drivers then the computer would tell you that its not compatible with the vista and exits the installation. after some times a window will appear that will tell you either to re-install the driver or the driver is installed successfully, click on reinstall software and vista will accept the drivers this time. try with all drivers.

My sony CLIE PEG-SJ20 is not compatible with Vista. Is there some mechanism I can install that will make it work with Vista?

I had the same problem with my clie peg-sj20 on my vista home basic based laptop. I could not hotsync after installing the original software. I've never tried to use my pda with this setup before so I was trying to find a way to make it work when I found this post, figured I would reply with what I found.
My Sony clie peg-sj20 runs the Palm o.s. 4.1 software and apparently Sony no longer supports this model. So after trying to hotsync and letting the Windows vista install wizard find the proper software, it suggested contacting the manufacturer of the operating system. I went to the Palm websight and downloaded the Palm o.s. 6.2 software which is compatible with vista, even though it doesn't say it supports the sj20. After installing it I performed a hotsync during setup when I was prompted to do so, and it totally worked. I'm not sure if this version works with other applications but it enabled me to hotsync running vista.
Hope this helps someone out there. Good luck.

Sony Clie PEG-T615C Hotsync doesn't work with my Windows Vista Home Edition

I must maintain my older XP system just to maintain my pda. Awkward, for sure. I have not contacted Sony yet.

I once discarded a very nice, functioning rinter by Canon because there was no driver for XP.

Ouch!

Installing this PDA on Windows Vista Home Premium laptop

you shouldnt need a device driver for your pda to work along side with Vista, as Vista has it's own Windows mobile device centre which should run as soon as you connect your pda to a usb port. If it doesnt run, then open up windows mobile device centre in programmes and check the mobile device settings as to whether usb is set to connect to the centre.
