The fault to your TV might not due to a defective capacitor. A higher capacitance valued capacitor, won't do nothing wrong. But as the capacitance value increases, the size of the capacitor will too increase. That's all. Check the fuse at the power supply regulator board. If it is found opened, make sure that something wrong with the power supply regulator board. Without rectifying the fault, never replace a fuse, as it will make things worse. If you wish to get more details, check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic / Time slide, can be selected by the drop-down list, at the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. You can also do a search, by type in the brand name/model number/IC used, in the search box at the top right of the display window.

Can't turn on tv with remote or manually

Hello,

The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board.

I do not think it needs replacement, rather some defective capacitors are causing this issue.
Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors).
After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

Not sure if this will help, but most caps fail with the in rush of power, over and over. Sounds like they were not made right. You might try a UPS ( uninterrupted Power Supply) this may help you with dirty power from your power company. And with high spikes. Make sure you get one that will handle the TV current draw. As far as upping the CAPs keep the same or slightly high voltage and increase in uf. You might find one that has the same uf and a higher voltage rating that will handle it.

My tv will not turn on

Hello,
Swollen, Bulged, Bad Capacitor
The main cause of this power up problem are bad capacitors on your power if the capacitor is bad. See more bad capacitor image

Now, if your LCD set is still under warranty I would suggest to use it and let the professionals handle the problem for you. But for the rest of the Samsung LCD TV owners that their warranty had expired and want to save some money, this would be the best route. Mind me, when I fixed my power supply I didn't have any previous experience on desoldering and soldering capacitors on a power supply board. It was a good experience after all is said and done.

Here's what you need for this DIY project: Screw driver, Soldering iron(40watts+), Desoldering braid, Soldering wire, and capacitors.

Now lets talk about the specs, capacitors hold 3 important value:

1. The capacitance measured in uF(micro farads) (ex. 2200uF), 2. Voltage (ex. 10v), 3. Temperature (ex. 105°C)
Hope this will help in solving,Take care......

Important Notes:
Flat panel Television power supply capacitors has 10v installed on the board and it is attached to a 12v bus which is causing to bulged.

Look at the bad capacitor and get the right information from it, remember uF, voltage and temperature. Mine, I only change 2 capacitors. It needed two 2200 uF, when I first saw my power supply it was really easy to spot the bad caps. Some Samsung LCD owners did went ahead replace all the capacitors on the power supply to make sure. Now if you’re like me, an inexperience solder, I would not recommend changing all the capacitors because to me it was time consuming for a noob(newbie) like me ^_^.

Few things to take note, always make sure you have the right polarity. Negative part is where the colored stripe on the capacitor.
But if otherwise, the power supply board is bad, you can try websites Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
Hope this helpout...

My Samsung PS4297HD TV started to turn itself off after about 5 minutes and noe wont turn on at all but just makes a constant clicking sound

Hi

A common fault with this model is bad capacitors in the power supply, Remove the back from your tv and look at the power supply for bulged / swollon capacitors on top, they may even leak a brown like substance and should have a value of around 1000uf 10v
Change these where possible with the same uf but higher voltage lets say 1000uf 25/35v
Hope this helps

I have a Samsung LN40A450 LCD TV that is only a year and a half old. I am getting no power to the tv only a consistent blinking red light and a audible clicking/beeping noise. What needs to be replaced?

I will explain how to:

  • Open the case of the LCD
basically in all LCD monitors have two circuit boards (power supply board and system board)
  • After you open you will see the two boards are

  • You see a board that has a socket for the power source. wrote that the board we're looking for (power supply board)
  • Remove all cables connected to the board and take out the board. (get noted before you unplug it)
  • Now you see it components on board, we looking for capacitor.(see picture below)
46ddc22.jpg

  • Looking for damaged capacitors, physically you will see a capacitor on the top like a bloated (see picture below)
7a91ba9.jpg
  • Replace the damaged capacitor with the same value that you can see on the surface of the capacitor. (In this step you need any soldering tool)
My advice: replace capacitors with higher voltage, like 10V replace with 16V or 25V will be fine.

When I try to turn on our relatively new Samsung flat screen TV, it clicks off/on, off/on numerous times before actually turning on and staying on. Any ideas what could be causing this?

A lot of these Samsung LCD and Plasma TV's used marginal electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. You can usually tell which capactors are bad, because their tops will be swollen (rounded) instead of flat. The usual values of the bad capacitors are either 2200 uF or 3300 uF, usually rated at 35V, depending on the model. I've seen these capacitors go bad after just 1 year of use. It's a relatively easy repair for any qualified electronic or TV technician.
