I am not a mechanic per say but usually that black smoke is oil blowing by the piston rings if it is black smoke which means it needs a overhaul and keep plenty of oil handy. However if it is white smoke it is a rich carborator and you need to redo the adjustment on the carb for air to gas ratio (screws on the side of the carb bowl) just play with it and one last ting make sure the plug is properly gapped having a too close a gap can cause it also

I have a Horse Tiller with no spark. How can i resovle this.

If I were you I would seek professional help. The engine may very well need replacement parts. If you know what a kill switch wire is it would be worth your while to see if it is toughing any where to a metal surface. This condition would be the same as turning the engine off. This could get very technical unless you understand electrical theory, lock-out systems etc.

Tiller will not engage tines

Is this a two speed or a 4 speed ... it is a MTD built Troy or a Troy built Troy or do you know?

There were two versions of Horse built in Troy, New York bu Gardenway ... the two speed and the 4 speed. The two speed used two belts the same size while the 4 speed used one belt on different sized pulleys. There was also a variation that used a slip gear ... this model was built to accomodate other accesories ... log splitter and generator.

If yours is a Troy Built from Garden Way, I can help you. If this one is from MTD, I'm not so sure. Can you ID your machine for me please?

Go to this website and type in Horse for your model number.Just put thenumber 1 in for your serial number and it will bring up several horse tiller manuals. If yours is a 1976 then it should be
a Horse I model. This should be a two speed tiller and have two drive belts.

Old Troy Built with model #HH60-105106F. What is

That's the engine number. It's a 6Hp Tecumseh. Go on ebay and buy the Troy Bilt parts manuals on CD for Horse Roto Tillers (if that's what it's on). I paid $8. Definitely worth it.

My troy bilt horse has serial number 544253, can anyone tell me what the model number is and what year it was built? Thanks

if you have a B&S engine look at the frist two numbers on the code. thats the year of the engine and more likelyof your unit, As long as the motor has'nt been replaced. I'll checked on your serial number did'nt find a model. If this is an old troy built I'll have to call tech support. also I need to know what engine 4, 4.5, 6, 7, 8, hr power, and the name of the teller. MTD now owens troy built.

Changing the drive belt

remove plastic belt cover
remove the guard,belt/pulley
work in the right side first:
remove the rigth-side wheel
remove the screws of the bumper
remove 2 screws on bracket/transmission assembly
pull the bracket
install the new belt
reinstall the right side screws and wheel

do the same in the left side
Ps: remove the belt guide, and reverse return spring
