    Hello Joe,

I can help you get this all setup and working, but I should start by telling you that you cannot connect this TV to your soundbar using the red and white RCA jacks. The red and white RCA jacks are analog and none of the RCA audio sockets on the back of this TV are audio outputs. They are all audio inputs. I've ringed these in red in the picture below.

The only audio outputs on this TV are digital coaxial and digital optical, ringed these in green:

hi im trying to hook - belectric_158.jpg
The only way to connect this TV to your Vizio soundbar is using a digital optical or digital coaxial cable. If you don't have either of these, you will need to purchase one, but you can only use one of these cables if the Vizio SoundBar has digital optical IN or digital coaxial IN. If you can let me know the model number of the SoundBar I can help you to work out the best way to connect it all.

    Digital Optical
    Digital Coaxial

There are other options as well. If you are using a cable/satellite receiver or digital converter as the source for your TV channels, you can connect this box directly to the SoundBar. Most of these boxes have RCA type audio OUT sockets, so you would be able to use your red & white analog audio cable if you connected this way. It is actually better to connect all of the audio sources, i.e cable/satellite receiver, DVD player, etc directly to the SoundBar, rather than routing the audio via the TV. Connecting via the TV can result in audio delay meaning the sound is out of sync with the picture and you may get echo if you are using the TV speaker as well.

I am happy to provide as much detail and assistance as you need and I can also draw you a setup diagram, but in order to do so, I will need the following details:

    1. Model number of the SoundBar
    2. Model number of cable/satellite receiver or digital converter (if using one)
    3. Model numbers of any other devices you wish to connect to the SoundBar (if any)
    4. Which audio cables you have spare for making connections.

Finally, you obviously need a manual for this TV. This is available from FixYa and can be downloaded by clicking on the following link:

    http://static.fixya.com/Manuals/T/Toshiba/_79ED16AEB8FA88D5535AF820E55B52F1.pdf

If you are unable to open the file, you will need to download and install Adobe Reader:

    http://get.adobe.com/reader/

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to me with the details requested above.

    Regards,
    BElectric

The tv should auto detect the optical signal for the soundbar. Some tvs will not and you must go into the sound (menu settings) and choose optical as a sound output method. If niether of these work you will need to test the sound bar with the optical output of the tv and possibly lower the tv volume all the way down and turn the sound bar up...My phillips tv doesn't auto detect, and I must turn down my tv volume and up the volume on my sound bar to produce the optical sound.

Let me know if this helps :)

by red and white do you mean standard definition (analog?). True digital sound is a single output, much like this picture.

For analog to digital/optical you will need one of these:

These are the adaptors commonly used for soundbars with tvs that do not support one sound format.

Please let me know if this helped :)

We are trying to hook up a VIZIO sound bar model#S3820w-Co to our Vizio TV we also have Directv and a dvd player hook to this tv which wire do we hook from sound bar to Tv

If the TV and sound bar have an optical connector, then get the optical cable to connect the two. If not then use the audio out jacks on the TV and don't forget to change the audio set up to switch the sound to the sound bar.

Is there any recourse for a new TV that has little sound?

I do not understand why the set cannot be returned but I would be interested to know if the low sound is on TV or DVD only or both.

Some of these sets have a tiny audio circuit that puts out fairly low sound levels---unless a as is sale the set has to be fit to be used, go after the store first for refund or exchange for another brand or Contact Toshiba==set may be up for a exchange if enough folks complain.

Connecting my VCR/DVD combo to Toshiba television

It would be helpful to know what cable your trying to connect, component, S-VIDEO, HDMI, etc. Also the make & model of the combo unit & Toshiba TV. However the basic process is usually the same for most hardware. Make sure the connection to combo unit is "video/audio out" not in and make sure the input for the TV says IN not OUT. Then you need to set the TV to the correct input channel. And then make sure the combo unit is using the correct output... usually this is automatic for component cables but not always.

Im trying to set up my tv, it was given to me as a gift, my uncle was using it it works i can change the channels but when i try to work my dvd player with it, only the audio comes on the screen stays...

    Hi,
    Please few things...
1- Make sure audio and video wires are hooked correctly in AV input of tv and you selected that AV input in tv with its remote.
2- Also check your dvd has not been set on progressive mode if you hook dvd player through yellow-red-white wires with tv.
3- if dvd player is set on progressive mode, then hook it with tv by component video input, red-green-blue for video and red-white for audio.
Hope this info will solve your problem.
    Thanks.

I am hooked into cable and not on antenna. I can get sound w/ the DVD player that is hooked up to the tv but no sound on the tv. The tv channels come in clear but no sound.

May be a simple problem with the SAP (second audio program ) being set to the wrong place, run thru the onscreen audio menu and see if this is the case

I have sound but no picture. The screen is black

can you see any any menus or the volume bar or channel indicator?
Make sure all your audio and video cables are hooked up correctly to inputs on the TV and to the same set of hookups. For example all of the VCR cables hooked into video 1 and all of the DVD cables in video 2.
Also check that you haven't hooked up the video to the tv's output. Some sets output audio and/or video for external devices such as recording setups or home theater sound systems.

Only getting sound but no picture!

Well, i had a look at the back of that Toshiba TV - make sure that the red, white, and yellow cables are hooked into the Video-1 slot of the Toshiba and that the Toshiba channel is changed to Video 1.
Then check your nameless DVD player and make sure the red, white, and yello cables are all hooked to OUTPUT slots that are in the same column or row - if I had you DVD manufacturer and model #, I could suggest some additional steps to check. Also, make sure your dvd player is in dvd playback mode.

    Hooking up a d.v.d player to a vcr/tv combo?

RCA plugs (the yellow, red, and white outlets you speak of) consist of a video plug (yellow) and stereo plugs for audio (red and white). Just match the colors from the DVD RCA colors to the RCA hook-ups on the TV (ex. Yellow the Yellow, White to White).

You don't need to worry about the red one, it just makes the DVD player play stereo audio. Instead, you'll have mono, which is fine, and most modern players can detect mono and switch it for you so don't worry about changing settings and what not (unless you're missing sound on one side.)

You need 3 pins cable for Components Video hook up and 2 pins for Audio Right-Left conncetion.
There is another option of Yellow-Red-White combination for Video / Audio hook up.
Please let me know what type of set up you need.
