Question about Porter Cable Cable No. FR350A Rnd Head Framer Kit

1 Answer

Hello, there is air coming from the trigger area, I suspect there is some kind of o-ring or some kind of seal broken where the trigger goes into the piston area, I just want to know how to take that apart and fix the problem. Thanks

Trigger valve is part number A08368 or (old part #897458). Easy repair. Remove air supply hose, and nails. Remove pin holding trigger to expose trigger valve. Spray soapy water on valve to determin if air is leaking from outer part of valve (orings that contact the body) or around the pin. Remove roll pin/s holding trigger valve in body of gun (use 3mm pin driver, some guns have one pin others 2). With pins removed, apply air pressure to gun and valve will pop out (use heavy glove or rag in hand to catch valve because some valves come out with force). With trigger valve in hand notice the two groves on sides of valve that roll pins contact (when you re-insert valve align valve so groves align with roll pin in body). Remove the two pins holding inner workings of trigger valve. There are two orings on the trigger pin, three orings on the inner valve and two orings on the outer part of body of valve. Usually, the orings that cause leak are the two smallest on trigger pin and three on the inner valve (unless soapy water test indicates outer orings). Orings are available at dewalt service center by part number or if you like to tinker, Lowes has many usefull orings in the plumbing department or replace the whole valve for about $25. Use plenty of silicone paste lube on the orings (sold at lowes). Valve should press in without a great deal of force and be sure to align valve to roll pin in the body. Use 3mm punch to temp. hold valve in gun for test. Good luck

Trigger leaking air and trigger does not work

Try adding some transmission fluid to the air inlet. Just a little squirt in the air nipple. Try the gun, if it doesn't work it may need a new o-ring kit. they are relatively easy to replace. Also make sure the allen head screws are tight. These hold the body of the piston assembly against the seals. If air is leaking from this area the gun will not shoot. The seal rebuild kit comes with installation instructions.

I have a bostich rn46 wont fire a nail just leaks air.put new trigger assembly in

depends on where the air is leaking from, if the top of cap you have a pinched o ring, from the bottom of tool you have a problem with the cylinder or seal, the trigger assembly has a broken o ring. Let me know where the air if coming from and I will try and help.

Leaking air through trigger area. Will not nail at all.

The trigger valve has seven orings. The oring kit may not include all orings needed. To replace the trigger valve, remove nails, remove the rollpin holding the trigger with 3mm driver to expose the trigger valve. Next remove one or two roll pins holding the trigger valve in the body of the gun. Apply air pressure to gun and catch the valve with gloved hand (use caution because the valve may come out with force). Note the position of the valve in the body of the gun in relation to the roll pins. If the firing pin seems loose in the body of the valve, replace the whole valve(could be # tva6 cost about 20 dollars on ebay). Good luck

My Porter Cable FN250A only shoots nails sporadically. When I lift up the nose piece, it appears that the "hammer" is not fully retracting.

Piston not retracting is caused by several issues. Bent or broken driver, worn piston oring or loose or broken check seal. Remove head and examine driver for bent or broken, adjust as needed. Check that piston oring fits snug, piston should not drop down cylinder under its own weight. Pull cylinder from body and check that black band (check seal) is in place around holes in cylinder. Good luck

My dewalt framing nail gun was hooked to the air compressor, but was not being used when it began leaking air which you could hear and got louder. It sounded like it was leaking around the trigger area....

There are O-ring seals around the trigger that are probably leaking. You can try to lubricate the gun by adding the pneumatic oil to the air supply. That may be enough to seal it back up. Otherwise the seals and/or the trigger assembly will need to be replaced.

CH TLX102 Air Drill Air Leak

THe drills normally have one of two types of mechanisms at the trigger. An "O" ring or a small steel ball. Since you didn't see any rings or other seals, you need the ball. It is about 1/8" diameter and it is held in place by a spring.

Is there a washer or o ring in this area of my gun

There are about 6 orings in that little area. And there is also a seal. It sounds to me like the seal has become brittle and broke apart. You need to get the trigger valve assy out and inspect it for any damage. Depending on your model, some manufacturers only sell this as an assy and others sell individual parts. Check with your nearest service center for parts availability.

MY PNEUMATIC STAPLE GUN WON'T WORK/ looses air through firing lever. How do I repair it? Where do I put the oil in?

I would agree with rowdy that the make and model number are essential to getting the right parts - If you have that information, just find a dealer that supports your brand. That being said, air leaking out the trigger area is likely to be an O-Ring or Seal problem. Pneumatic staplers have O-rings and Seals that need to be replaced periodically. Most have rebuild kits available that contain all the O-Rings and Seals that need to be replaced. Many staplers have O-rings and/or Seals on or near the trigger shaft that can wear and allow air to leak out
