Hi,

I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

My LG LDF6920St has not been cleaning very well recently and there was an odor and grease left in the bottom after a wash. I pulled it out and found the Float Assembly pretty clogged and dirty, which I...

1 Scrape and rinse dishes before putting them in your appliance. Small food particles, grease, sauces and bones clog up the system, keeping the dishwasher from properly rinsing your dishes. You don't need to prewash the dishes but be sure to rinse off any solids.
2 Use a toothbrush to clean around the dishwasher door.
Clean around the seal and hinges of the dishwasher. This area often is forgotten and holds a good deal of bacteria and food splash. A tooth- or bottlebrush is the best way to get into the crevices.
3 Clean chunks of food out of the screen and drain at the bottom of your dishwasher, recommended The Family Handyman. If the drain is plugged, the dirty water can't be washed away and ends up back on your dishes. Nut, bean and seafood shells, bits of plastic and small dishes can lodge against the drain, keeping it from doing its job.
4 Unclog the holes in the sprayer arms. If the holes are blocked by food or soap, water cannot freely spray inside the dishwasher to thoroughly clean the dishes. Leftover food on the dishes can make the dishwasher smell.
5 Keep space around your dishes. Overloading a dishwasher keeps it from running efficiently, allowing gunk to build up around the drain and the spray arms.
6 Run your dishwasher as hot as possible to break down food and grease. The recommended temperature is 120 F.
7 Run the dishwasher with vinegar added to neutralize odor. Empty the dishwasher, place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with white vinegar on the top rack, and run a cycle at the hottest setting. If you prefer, use unsweetened lemonade powder or baking soda in place of vinegar.

The dishes just don't get clean. I know this isn't much to go on, but that's it.

Is the water hot? (make sure hot water is available to the machine at the start of the cycle by running the sink faucet until it is hot) Are you using the internal heater? (check the control panel for this feature) Are you using the entire cycle? (time) We are not talking about baked on food here are we? Dirty dishes that have dried?

Dishwashers cant remove baked on food no matter what the advertisement said. If the food is dried on, there is a better chance but ... dishwashers work best with freshly dirty dishes. If the food is dried, at least let them soak in the dishpan for a few minutes before you put them in.

How are you arranging the dishes, can the water reach all surfaces? (Think tempest in a teapot).

Have you tried other detergents? My preference is liquid though others may prefer granulated or tablet. I also like to use a product called Rinse-Aid.

If you have considered all these ideas and the dishes are still dirty ... there may be a mechanical fault with the machine. Is it making the proper noises?, Filling and emptying properly? (listen to it)

I hope you find these suggestions helpful ... Thanks for your visit today.

Whirlpool dishwasher has food particles baked on.

Heating element may fail. This will lead to the machine stopping part way through its cycle

Pumps. There are 2 pumps in most dishwashers. The drain pump,( which describes itself -it pumps the water out of the machine.)
The recirculating pump which forces the water at high pressure through the spray nozzles and arms. (This is how the cleaning action is performed)
These pump may either leak, or burn out. Either way, the only solution is replacement.

Water spots of forks & knives and dishes not

The problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.

Food particles are on dishes after washing

Try adding bicarb of soda/baking soda and vinegar in the detergent dispenser. Bicarb fizzes off hardened particles and vinegar strips off grease and aids rinsing.

My dishwasher leaves crumbs and food particles stuck to everything in the top rack

Usually this problem is due to the fact that the dirty particle filled water isn't fully draining and the unit is trying to rinse the dishes with fouled water thus baking any leftover food particles during the dry cycle.
Make sure that all of the water is draining from the dishwasher after all drain cycles.

Usually poor draining is due to a blockage or partial blockage in the drain line, also the blockage can be at the drain pump itself or where the drain connects to the under sink drain

Smell in LG LDF8812ST

First, scrape your dishes clear of food before putting them in.  Rotten food makes smells.  Second, use a good brand of detergent in the recommended amount and use the heating cycle to heat the water up.
Most dish washers have a dryer heat cycle but this one apparently does not.  This may cause mold in the machine.
How to get rid of the smell:  With no dishes in the machine, add half a cup of bleach in the bottom of the unit and do a full wash cycle.  If the unit still has an odor, get some baking soda...about a half cup and put that in the bottom of the machine.  Close the door and leave overnight.  Then, run the machine through one wet cycle...say a wash cycle and then it should stop smelling.
Hint:  When leaving dishes in the machine between uses, leave the door ajar...do not close tightly.
