I encrypted some text using a software.the software asked me to enter a key to encrypt the text, finally the encryption was successful.a few days later i lost the copy of software that i used to encrypt the files.i installed a different software for encryption\decryption but then when i try to decrypt the text file that i encrypted earlier using the same key that i used to encrypt. it gives me an error"the text could not be decrypted as it was not encrypted".what is the problem here,do the two software use different encryption\decryption scheme and how does the particular software identifies whether the text was encrypted or not?please give a solution to get back my original text.

All the encryption softwares use different encryption algorithm.i.e. different steps to encode a file.
the other software shows that the file was not encrypted because for this software, you previously encrypted file is an original file and not encrypted file.
to decrypt the file you need that very encryption software that you used earlier.

To open a locked memory card, select Options > Unlock memory card. Enter the password.
If you cannot recall the password to unlock a locked

the card is unlocked and password removed.
Formatting a memory card destroys all data stored on
the card.

Select Menu > Tools > Encryption.
Encrypt your device or memory card to prevent
outsiders from accessing your important information.

Encrypt device memory or memory card

To encrypt the device memory,

select phone memory.
To encrypt the memory card, select memory card from the following:

Encrypt without saving key

• memory card without saving the encryption key. If
you select this option, you cannot use the memory
card in other devices, and if you restore factory
settings, you cannot decrypt the memory card.
Encrypt and save key

• and save the key manually in the default folder. For
security, store the key to a safe place outside the

How to Encrypt and set password in Word 2007 Documents?

It is possible to secure your private Word 2007 documents. Your private documents can be password protected as well as encrypted in order to rule out the possibility of other people accessing it. You can encrypt Word 2007 documents in a shared location e.g. a home computer or a network folder. You don't have to worry about the sensitive data in your computer any more as you can easily encrypt Word 2007 documents by following these easy steps:

1. Click on the Microsoft Office Button.
2. Select Prepare from the left-hand menu.
3. Click on Encrypt Document from the resulting menu shown on the right.

The Encrypt Document dialog box will appear. Enter a password for the Word document.

set-password.jpg
4. Type in the password once more for confirmation and click on the Ok button.
5. After you press the Ok button, this window will close without asking for further verification. Your Word 2007 document is now successfully encrypted. When you encrypt Word 2007 documents, Microsoft Office automatically saves the document with a 128-bit advanced encryption.

No-one can open this document without entering the password. If anyone clicks on the document to open it, he will be prompted to enter a password.

thanks....

I tried to change from WEP to WPA but the password will not go through. It makes it an unsecure line for wireless. What am I doing wrong?

The Short Answer:
Your password might not meet criteria. It also depends on whether you use a custom encryption key. If so, then you either need to create a 10-digit or 26-digit hexadecimal number (numbers 0-9 & letters a-f) depending on whether you use 64 or 128-bit encryption.

The Long Answer:
A WPA password must be between 8-63 characters long, and must only contain ASCII printable characters.
The 2Wire User Guide for the 2700 states the following:
"You can customize the following wireless settings in the Wireless Security panel.
1. From the Authentication pull-down menu, select an authentication setting: WEP-Open, WEP-Shared, or WPA-PSK.
Note: WPA-PSK authentication is supported only on HG model gateways.
Open authentication allows users to configure their wireless adapter as either Open or Shared; in either case an encryption key is required. Shared authentication allows users to configure their wireless adapter for Shared authentication, which requires an encryption key. WPA-PSK requires that users configure their wireless adapter using TKIP.
2. To use the encryption key that came with your gateway, click the Use default encryption key radio button.
To create a custom encryption key, click the Use custom encryption key radio button. If you select Use custom encryption key, you can define a 64-bit or 128-bit encryption key. For 64-bit encryption, enter a 10-digit hexadecimal number. For 128-bit encryption, enter a 26-digit hexadecimal number. A hexadecimal number uses the characters 0-9, a-f, or A-F.
3. Click SAVE"

Changing password making the network secured

Access the Linksys configuration page as described in your instructions.
Select WPA or WPA2 as the wireless security encryption
Select PSK or TKIP and enter a network key (a.k.a. Password) to secure the connection.
The devices you connect to the Linksys must support the encryption you select.
Older devices might force you to use older encryption like WEP but be aware that WEP has been hacked since 2007 so it really isn't very secure anymore.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

2nd laptop will not connect to internet

I'm assuming that your 2nd laptop is wireless? Does your router have encryption? If it has, then you need to get the encryption key from one of the working computers. Access the linksys interface from one of the working computers. Usually this is done by going to http://192.168.1.1 (leave username blank, password is "admin"). Go to Wireless> Wireless Security. Is encryption selected? If yes, get encryption key #1 and use it on the non-working laptop to connect to the router. If encryption is not enabled, go to the steps below.

On the 2nd laptop, click on the wireless icon at the bottom right part of your screen. Look for the linksys router from one of the available wireless networks, click connect and enter in the encryption key when it asks for it (not case-sensitive. Usually it's 10 or 24 digits). If encryption is not enabled, it will not ask for the encryption keys when you hit connect. See what happens.

WEP Encryption

It is recommended to enable encryption on your wireless router before your wireless network adapters. Please establish wireless connectivity before enabling encryption. Note: Your network will slow down and wireless signal may degrade when enabling encryption due to the added overhead. Step 1 Log into the web configuration of the router by opening up a web browser and typing in the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1). Step 2 Enter your username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Click OK . Click the Home tab and click the Wireless button on the left hand side of the screen. Step 3 Select Enable next to the WEP radio buttons. For WEP encryption select 64, 128, or 256-bit encryption. For the Key type select HEX. If you have an option for Authentication type, select Shared Key. Step 4 Select Key 1. Enter a Hex encryption key that you make up. The length of the encryption key will depend on what you selected under WEP Encryption. 64-bit encryption 10 characters 128-bit encryption 26 characters 256-bit encryption 58 characters (available on DI-614+ only) The encryption key is HEX, meaning 0-9 and A-F are valid characters. For example, A4583DFF1A (64-bit HEX key). Step 5 Click on the Apply button then click on the Continue button to save your settings. Note: If using non-D-Link adapters, please refer to the manufacturer´s documentation on enabling encryption.
