Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

My Sharp PA-3140 II wont type after 13 characters. It worked fine yesterday, and now I turn it on and everything operates, but past 13 characters the wheel won't fire.

I tried the margin release before. The type writer doesn't return to the left margin after the wheel stops impacting the paper, it continues to the right but after 13 characters the wheel stops impacting the paper. Even when I run the "Self Demonstration" test the typewriter goes from left margin to right margin across the entire page but it only types the first 13 characters.

The right margin is probably set. reset the right margin further to the right. Use the MR key to release it, space bar over to where you want it & then set the right margin. RM (some time you have to use the code key or function key.

IBM Selectric: Why does ball keep typing in the same spot when it gets to middle of the carridge? Space past that spot and it types fine. Hopefully, there is a simple fix. Thanks.

There are 2 black plastic dust covers that get bowed after the years and catch the carrier at the seam where they meet. They may just be loose so first try pushing them down. If that dosen't work take a sharp object and round off the top edge where they meet. If all fails gently remove them it will work fine without them.

I have a Sharp Electronic Typewriter model PA3100 II, I can't figure out how to turn on the bold type, I can't find the owners manual

I couldn't find how to bold text in the manual myself, but You could try using the micro backspace function. (i.e. for "BOLD" in bold do "B", back, micro, "B", etc.) I haven't tried it, so idk if it works. Here's the manual so you can check it yourself. \/

oops, I just realized it was 3100 II, well, I couldn't find the proper manual either, but the model may be similar to the 3140, here's the manual for that one.\/

on the pa-4000, it's code-9, but may be different on the 3100ii. hope that helps. :)

Typing characters that are not intended

Try these troubleshooting suggestions for your problem:

Wrong Characters Print or Characters Space Incorrectly:

1. Turn the typewriter off, wait 30 seconds, then turn the typewriter
on again and try typing again.
2. Make sure the LANG indicator is off.
3. Try a new printwheel.
4. Look for objects In the path of the carrier.
5. Make sure the printwheel is changed when there is a language
change.
6. If you are playing back, make sure you use the same pitch
printwheel you used when you typed the text.

Correcting IBM Selectric II Typewritter correcton ribbon won't engage

Selectric I and II type elements are identical (88 char) where Selectric III uses a different element (96 char). The 88 character element will have white lettering and the 96 character element will have yellow. Directly underneath the lift-up tab to remove the element will be a 3-digit number. That's the last 3 digits of the element's part number, which will be preceeded by 1167 for 88 character, or 1352 or 96 character. For example, if you have a '052" stamped on the element, and it's an 88 character style, the P/N will be 1167052.

The correcting mechanism is an intricate additional function of the backspace function. To test it/adjust it/or repair it requires the machine be hand-cycled using a hand cycle wheel which is screwed into the right hand side operational shaft. It's unlikely that an un-trained party would be successful repairing this..
