Question about Garmin Nuvi 780 4.4 in. Car GPS Receiver
Hi JoAnn, What you really need is a cigarette lighter socket in your car and this doesn't have to be a big problem. In most car accessory shops you can get cigarette lighter socket splitters, like the one at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-Cigarette-Lighter-Splitter-Adaptor/dp/B003TNYK7Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301407423&sr=8-1
Now I know these are supposed to plug into your cigarette lighter socket but you can remove the plug from the end of it and get wired directly to the fuse board of your car. The wire that goes to the centre tip of the plug connects to the positive/fuse of the fuse board and the wire that's connected to the outer part of the plug connects directly to an unpainted metal part of the car. You can do this by loosening a bolt, wrapping the wire around it and tightening it again. The block with the sockets on it can be either glued with double sided tape to a convenient part of your car interior or left loose if you prefer.
If you're not happy wiring it directly yourself it should not cost a lot to get done in a garage. If I was in your position that's what I'd do.
