Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Our refrigerator is only about six years old. The problem began after the refrigerator was unplugged for about six weeks and then plugged back in. The freezer side works just fine. The refrigerator side will work for a while and then it stops cooling. If the temperature control is turned to zero and then back to the proper setting, it cools again (but stops again). Is this a repairable problem or should we be replacing?

Maybe corrosion in the cold control. Could be a fan shutting down. When fresh food side is warming up , is fan running in freezer? My guess with the information given. A simple repair.

How do I unplug a drain if I do not have an air gap

Is it a plugged problem or is the drain solenoid maybe not working. Do you hear a click when it reaches drain cycle. If not the drain valve or wiring or possibly even the timer is defective. VERY seldom that a drain hose would plug up. Make sue the hose is not kinked also. You may have plugged house plumbing under the sink or etc also.

Saw your post a week late but the sound could be the start relay on compressor is weaking or if the water is turned off to ice maker the water control valve will try to fill ice maker if the ice make switch is left on and has no water. I will send a manual shortly, Sea Breeze

FREEZER WORKS...FRIDGE DOESN'T

Hi,...

In that case you need to check this

  • Make sure the refrigerator is plugged in securely
  • Check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker
  • Test the power outlet for current
  • Inspect the electrical cord for damage
  • Eliminate use of an extension cord, if any is being used
  • Check the outlet voltage
Good luck !!!

If the fan is running you more than likely have a defrost problem.
look at the back wall of the freezer section if it is frosted up. it's not defrosting.
There three components in this system. The defrost heater, the defrost termination stat., and the defrost timer. Newer refrigerators do not have a timer per say it is build into a electronic board usually mounted on the back of the refrigerator under a metal plate. The termination stat is the cheapest part @ $ 25.00. The heater should run @ 50.00 to 70.00. The board could be as much as 200.00 or more. If the refrigerator is over 10 years old you may wish to look into getting a replacement. Appliances are designed to start failing after 10 years old.
My opinion.
If you unplug the refrigerator let it defrost then plug it back in. it will work properly about 3 days before it frosts back up.
hope this helped. Good luck
