Question about LG Refrigerators

1 Answer

The technician replaced a fuse on the computer board on the back of the fridge. It's been working for 48 hours now. He called to say he needs to replace the complete board for over $500. Does this sound right?

Thanks. That was my thought, but I didn't know if I was missing something.

This is very helpful. He didn't mention the board being damaged, and the refrigerator is cooling so I will follow your advice.

Hello
When he replaced the fuse on the board did he say the board was damaged? The fuse is there to protect the board from damage,so the fuse blew and did its job.

Normally if the board was damaged you would not get cooling at all,so i dont understand why he wants to replace the board.

Politely explain the frige has been fine for 48 hours and you would like to see how it will be in a couple days before you commit to a new board.

Thanks and good day.

g.e has mother boards or computer board in them located on the back outside wall, your board is on the top left, part number wr55x10942,everything on your machine runs through that board, also look at the evaporator coil where the thermostat is,there's a sensor on the top of the coil,it looks like a white bullet,if there's a black ring around it where the wires connect to it you also have to change that too.wr55x10025.go here and look at picture,if your board doesn't have all the relays like on this board then you don't have the updated board
http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Main-Control-Board/WR55X10942/1531075the new board has all 7 relays and is the newest board.hope this helps and good luck with it.

Radio Shak had it. I just did the same thing with mine and figured id try and give it a go myself. Turned out, $20 at Radioshak for a solder gun, fuse holder, new fuse and an hour of my time was worth it.
The difference between a "Fast acting" and "Slow burn" (also known as Time-Delay fuse) is one is for a resistive load, and the other an inductive load. Resistive loads are like lights and circuit boards, where the amperage is relatively constant. Inductive loads (time-delay) are motors, things that require a large in-rush current to get moving like the compressor on your fridge. Hope this helps.

Have older machine always worked with no problem ....it is and FandP Intuitive top load.. today put in light load started off machined filled and stopped....now nothing is happening not even any lights....

If machine is completely dead ie no lights, then you probably have a faulty motor control module (main power board). These do not have any replaceable fuses, requires new module. Note- fault could be with another part of machine, which has caused module to fail eg faulty drain pump can blow control module. All other components need to be testedd before module is replaced, preventing a new module from blowing due to a fault elsewhere. These can be quite a complex machine, and not really easy to fix by untrained persons. Recommend calling service technician

Temperature Control not working on LG fridge

It is an error code. The thermal fuse in the freezer section has gone. It has to be replaced. To get by in the short term, uplug the unit for 15 minutes, then plug it back in. It will run until it hits the defrost again (approx 5 hours) Part location is 401A and part number is 6615JB2005C. It is easy to change once you get the back cover off. Plug in part.

There could one of 3 separate problems going on but without fully knowing what's going on, I can't exactly tell you what to look for.  You will probably need a qualified LG technician to see what's going on.

This unit, I believe is a piezo electric cooling/warming unit. It's possible that after or during your defrost, the control board was exposed to excess moisture... whether by condensation (sweating), evaporation or direct contact with the melted water. In this case, if you plugged the unit in before allowing sufficient dry time, it would have shorted your control board. Possibly allow the unit to dry (unplugged) for 24-48 hours and retry. If the same symptom occurs, replace the control board.
